Acer aspire notebook not recharging

Recommended Posts

hi all

First OP in this section.

My Acer aspire one notebook model ZG5 will not recharge battery after I let it discharge since buying it a few months ago.

I goggled & discovered the bios needs to be updated to v3309, (currently v3114), to allow recharging.

however Acer.com UK does not support bios updates for model ZG5.

I have downloaded what I think is the equivalent bios update (a110 v3309) but the procedure to upgrade to the latest bios version involves booting from an USB mem stick containing the relevant bios update but having attempted this a few years ago on a desktop PC & failing dismally I am loath to brick my notebook.

My notebook works fine with AC supply so am tempted to leave it be until I return to UK & then perhaps see if I can update.

Basically I lack the balls to chance my arm at doing this myself especially when I am unsure of the correct bios to apply.

I have emailed Acer support to indicate what version I need for model ZG5.

Can the likes of tukcom do this update or should I content myself with AC supply in my digs & I assume other free wi-fi bars/etc

have an AC plug to use while I devour a brekkie & beer & surf a little.

sorry again for waffling on.

thanks for reading :allright

cheers rogero

Never install a BIOS that is not 100% DESIGNED, not just "compatible" with your laptop.

If you have any doubts as to if the BIOS you have is made for your computer, do not install it.

A failed BIOS installation can make your computer worthless as anything other than a paperweight, functional battery or no.

My advice: use the plug until you get home and take it in to where you bought it and make them fix it for free, since its a defect.

there's an Acer service center in BKK, but not sure about Pattaya

Many thanks for info, May consider that at end of my visit or get it fixed on warranty at home.

I googled & found this from july/09:

"At present, Acer has more than15 Acer Service Centers across Thailand. Six centers are located in Bangkok: Rama 3, Pantip Plaza, Zeer Rangsit, IT Mall Fortune, Seacon Square, and Kingkaew (AOC). The remaining nine centers are in Chonburi, Rayong, Nakorn Ratchasima, Khon Kean, Phitsanulok, Chiangmai, Hat Yai, Phuket and Surat Thani."

So apparently none in pattaya yet.

cheers :clueless

Sorry to resurrect an oldish thread but I had a pleasant surprise today regarding my non-battery charging Acer.

I was out most of the day exploring more massage/beer bars (only 19947 to go!).

I arrived back completely beat & a few minutes at my netbook was killing my back. so I decided to indulge myself &

transferred to my bed, nicely propped up but I had to faffle about with leads & adaptors first.

I was surfing away happily when I noticed my battery charging was on solid & not flashing like the past 4 months.

2 hours later & battery now fully charged !! Why I don't know but just glad I don't have to update bios etc.

I think tomorrow I should completely discharge the battery & recharge again, (vaguely recall a post to that effect).

Probably a logical reason to the above but buggered if I know what!!

Cheers
