DUBAI, Jan 21 (Reuters) - Dubai government-owned Emirates [EMIRA.UL] airline, the largest customer for the Airbus (EAD.PA) A380 aircraft, said on Thursday it intended to restart superjumbo flights to New York in the second half of this year.

 

The carrier had pulled the world's largest passenger plane off the New York route in June after a drop in traffic, replacing it with a Boeing (BA.N) 777 aircraft as the impact of the global financial crisis swept across the Gulf Arab region, reducing passenger demand.

 

"It remains our intention to reinstate the A380 on the DXB-JFK-route in the second half of the year," an Emirates spokeswoman said.

 

The aircraft had been redeployed to Bangkok and Toronto.

 

Emirates, the Arab world's largest airline, has $55 billion of orders with plane manufacturers Airbus and Boeing.

 

The company received its eighth A380 on Monday and is the largest customer for the superjumbo, with 58 on order.

 

It currently flies the aircraft to Toronto, London Heathrow, Paris, Seoul, Bangkok, Sydney, Auckland, and will start flights to Jeddah from Feb. 1.

Exactly. Just booked for Sep with the A380 for my second leg flights (into BKK then returning to LHR).

I read your original post. There is no indication that BKK and/or Toronto will be dropped as a result of JFK being reinstated - the arrival of new A380s throughout the year will enable JFK to be upgraded to A380.

Exactly. Look out for EK384/5 (DXB/BKK/HKG/BKK/DXB) being upgraded to A380 in either Q2 or Q3 of this year.

Emirates service to New York will start again 31st Oct 2010 and noting Emirates schedule for A380 deliveries this year are :-

 

A6-EDH Jan

A6-EDI May

A6-EDJ June

A6-EDK July

A6-EDL Aug

A6-EDM Sept

A6-EDN Oct

A6-EDO Nov

 

A380 service will therefore continue on the Dubai-Bangkok route. All this is subject of course to no delivery delays from Airbus !

I agree here I fly this route twice monthly and have been upgraded 90% of the time so the A380 is definately due here soon. I even heard EK were thinking of adding another flight but with potential for 2 A380's in a day I doubt the demand would be there, especially now that HIGH season is over.
