Vientienne Restaurant...

Tried to go there last night and the place was closed.

Haven't been for a while but was a favourite.

 

Anybody know why.. closed for low season, closed Sunday evenings (surely not.. popular with Bangkok residents), or some modernisation?

 

Police were using it to wave errant motorcyclists into, so a bit of a pain to get in, then out, still hungry.

jacko ,please pm if you get an answer. You would save me a bb hire if it is closed. I know they have changed locations in the past. I mostly eat Thai, the LTG defers when i want an Indian meal. She can be quite cute watching her construct a Thai meal out of condiments and garnish pieces in an restaurant. This trip i plan meals at Vientienne and Mata Hari. Then its back to the Thai BBQ in Nakula.

I used to use the Aungkham northern Thai food restaurant on the north end of third. It closed and will open called 1001 I think. But heaven knows when as they seem to be taking their time. Ended up in Jed jook on North Rd near Tesco.

I had a visitor and thought the great food quality at Vientienne would be good, and they have a big car park!

Vientienne is very hit and miss..... I had a terrific and very hot meal (about 4 dishes) there last week with great service. Before that was there 2 months ago and it was absolutely dreadful....... awful service and chef didn't do such a good job....... we ended with the manager serving us and there were only about another 12 customers in the joint! So from last weeks report everything is on the up and up........ I ride past it most days so I'll let you know if I see it open again today.

I ate there on the end of April & I was very disappointed with both the food & service.

My server then told me that they had been very quite & there was talk of closure.

Maybe they should downsize their operation.

I loved it when it was 2nd Rd.

Didn't we all. Looks like a bad change of management from those times as it was a goldmine as well as being great VFM.
