HP 17" laptop G70-460US-Core2 Duo T6500

Recommended Posts

I've had it for 10 months, purchased new from Office Depot,2 months warranty remaining.Has had little use since I use my quad core PC nearly always.Has Vista Home Premium-32 bit.

I have Windows 7 Upgrade from HP-not yet installed as I have had zero problems with Vista.

Never a virus-I used Eset Nod 32 and now run Microsoft Security Essentials with no issues.Always use mouse so touchpad is rarely used.Still has protective cover on top.No issues.

I am asking 19k baht for it and not very flexible on price as I don't need to sell it.19k is a very fair price IMO for Thailand.

For a guy in Pattaya, the price of this laptop in the United States is roughly $2,200, not counting the transportation from the airport to the computer store and back -- depending what airline you take, what day you make the round trip, etc. Let's say $2,000. The OP is offering to sell for less than that, eh?

What it costs in the US has no meaning to a person in Thailand. The OP is hardly giving it away, but for a good-working laptop with those specs, in Thailand it's not an outrageous price at all. Plus he doesn't seem to want pounds for it, only baht, the price in UK pounds is as meaningless as the going price at a US computer store. I don't want to buy it, a few BMs will claim they can get a a better deal on a similar machine (but not the same one). And a few may be interested in buying it, why not?

I'll give you 15,000 for it if you have no other offers.

I don't need it as I have a netbook and a quad core PC but what the hell hehe

When I need something expensive from the US (including a laptop once) I just order it on the internet and ship it to someone thats coming over in the next month or 2...

This laptop is not worth 19k baht. Even were it new, I would not pay that much for it. You can get a new system with similar specs (maybe even better if you find a good promotion) and have someone bring it over for the cost of a few beers.

I'm not even clear what the argument is. This laptop is worth exactly what someone will pay for it.

To you, it has no value at all, which is an entirely different issue, and has nothing at all to do with how much it is worth. By not being interested in buying the produce AT ALL, you (and I) have no ability to set any value on it or to decide what is too much to pay.

Exactly, I agree 100%.

What I don't agree with is the fact the OP wants the same coin for a secondhand Lappy as to what it can be purchased new, infact its priced secondhand nearly $50.00 USD more than a new one, that $50.00 would nearly cover shipping so add 20% import tax and you can have a new one delivered from the states for an extra 4000b.

I think the OP is having a laugh as well and will never get near his asking price but your idea of sending it through customs could see it get stuck there for a millennium unless you hand over a king's ransom to Somchai and his friends.

In any case, if someone is living in Thailand, you've got to be hard pushed to need a laptop in the first place (as a necessity, as opposed to a PC) and if you do, then buying a new one with an extended guarantee, such as the very well thought of 3 year guarantee from Acer, would be the only logical thing to do. Buying second hand would offer you diddly squat protection if it broke 5 minutes later and as such, you'd only be prepared to buy one at a very steep discount. Actually, a second hand one from a Thai retailer, bought from someone in Thailand is worth more money, as at least it could be repaired under guarantee.

Have you ever shopped computers in Patts?Obviously not.I sold my nice 15" lappy on this forum when I left last year and made a whopping $10.It too had little use as does this one,so yes it is 2nd hand. But the member that bought it was happy.

Frosty,I think you're still reeling from no pizza delivery for 3 days.Obviously you're out of touch with what's on offer here.Stick with what you know.I did see a similar model from HP on sale at Office Depot this weekend that was $549 + tax of 6.5%.

I shop all the computer ads.

So we'll go with your premise-buy it here and wait for a BM to bring it over. You will not find a better deal at present in Patts and while you're out having pizza again, stop by a Thai location selling laptops for a price check. In fact, check how many 17" are on offer period.

To the other distractors, yes it's 2nd hand with very little use.I too use my quad core PC,which I paid $370 for out the door. But I'm sure you wanks got a better price than that.

You sold a secondhand lappy and walked away with a $10.00 profit, I reckon thats a result !!!!

Both these fellows make valid points. It all is what it is. I look at it differently in that I figure a laptop is meant for portability. Lugging around a 17" model is not my idea of a walk in the park. I prefer a 12" or 13" model that can for all intents and purposes do just the same as a 17" model in most makes.. But to each his own. the price is probably fair for LOS, but that ain't saying much..

I wasn't in it for the $10 profit as I included an extra or 2.It was a good deal for him considering Patts prices. In late April '09,prices for Core 2 Duo,not dual cores, were over the top.And I'm sure a Core 2 Duo isn't cheap today either.Oh.and try to find one with Vista Premium or even Windows 7 Premium.

I just wish everyone here would get over "secondhand"-it's barely used and you'd be hardpressed to know it from new.

Obvious to most,at least I assumed,a 17" lappy is a replacement for a PC,with portability.Maybe the best of both worlds. Many don't want to use a netbook even when traveling.I gave mine to my sister after 2 months.

And I'll reiterate, try and find a comparable lappy in Patts for that price,Core 2 Duo (not dual core) and Windows Vista Premium or Windows 7 Premium near that price. And even you could't tell mine from new.

Jee suss. I've promised my daughter a new one for the coming school year, I do believe she's going to get an HP 17-inch. I just have to check whether not having Blu-Ray is a disaster, other than that....

Thanks a lot.

you're welcome
