90 Day Reporting......retirement extension.

Recommended Posts

Just to confirm my thoughts, rather than get hit with some fine or other issues........

My 90 day reporting is due, but during the 90 days I left Thailand and returned on a single exit/ re-entry permit.

Do I need to report on the 90 days after my previous reporting..... or 90 days after my entry into the kingdom?

(Actually, I will be going out of Thailand again prior to the 90 days beyond my last entry... so I shall have to go get another exit/re-entry)

Thanks...someone who did this at Jomtiem without a problem advise me!

Now you need to report 90 days after your reentry into LOS.
Thanks.... I dislike traipsing down there!

Although I might be interested to see how Howard is doing... :allright

If you keep this up, next year it might be worth getting a multiple reentry permit, and if you keep traveling around within every 90 days, you never need to go there again for a year.

The 90 day reporting processing is very quick though, isn't it? Sometimes, I forget to bring a pen when I go there, and it takes longer to find a writing instrument than to get the new reporting date.

Oh absolutely, the guy you deal with is pleasant and cheerful, and requires little of you.

Although getting the necessary form from the desk at the door is sometimes more effort..... if there are no polite (and cute) trainees around.

I have been given the wrong one sometimes too.

I was tempted to let the retirement extension lapse, and get another Non-Imm O-multi when next in the UK, as I do get there twice a year.... but generally never in winter.

Again that would eliminate the visits to Jomtiem, and the TGF loves to accompany me on a trip out between the UK trips.

What advantage would a Non-Imm O-multi have over a retirement extension with a multiple reentry stamp? The latter can be obtained here without relying on a trip to the UK.

Not arguing, just curious.

I can't think of an easier visa to get and maintain than a retirement visa, if you meet the requirements, of course.

I would not need to keep 800k in the bank, nor go through the whole extension process.

No need to go to immigration to do 90 day reporting or obtain exit/re-entry permits.

(That place in Jomtiem is a pain to get to..... the old Thrappaya road works put me off for life!)

I know the big disadvantage is leaving Thailand every 90 days, but I do at least 2 UK trips anyhow, a Cambodia visa run or take the TGF to Singapore/Bali/Penang/wherever is easy. ( Keeps the booze shelf varied too!)

This year is my first retirement extension, and with UK trips in May and September and a trip to Bali in January I wonder if it was worth the messing about.

The Non-Imm O is easy in the UK and you can get 15 months out of it.

Thanks, you just reminded me, I have that somewhere on my computer and completely forgot! :D

I found a TM47, is that the one for 90 day reporting?

The issue with continual extensions (based on any qualification) is that you are grandfathered into the system at your original criteria. Now say you had a 3m investment visa, which was withdrawn in October 2006 I believe, then if you missed a signing on, you would lose that qualification and you could no longer get one because there is no 3m investment visa anymore. They did introduce a 10m one a couple of years later which I understand is still in force.

I also understand that there are still people on retirement extensions on an annual 100/200k or something because that is what it was way back when. If they missed, then they would have to find 800k. Same today with 800k, if they change it to 2m or 150k a month (I know they will likely not do so but .... TIT) then you are forced to comply with the new regulations.

There is also no guarantee that Hull will keep churning out multiple entry non immigrant visas, year after year.

Like MM says, I cannot think of an easier visa than retirement if you have 800k and like purchasing a condo or house, you lock into the rate now and are not forced to play the game at any new market rates. To let it lapse would seem foolish, if you are intent on staying even most of the year in Thailand.

If you aren't totally into chatting up polite and cute trainees, you can do it by mail. You can get all the forms online -- at least on the days that the immigration website isn't infected with something.

The forms including TM 47 are here.

Hints on 90 days here.

I don't understand. Your re-entry stamp has a date on it on when it expires. Is that too difficult?

Well I also have a piece of paper in my passport that has another date on it.

The exit-re-entry permit stamp has 3 dates on it......

Valid until... (when my retirement extension is valid to)

Issue Date... self explanatory

Date Used.... when I re-entered the kingdom.

Even the Entry Stamp has the hand written date equivalent to when my retirement extension expires.

NOWHERE does it state when I should do my next 90 day reporting other than on the previous paper, which does not apply as I left the Kingdom in the interim.

I think you do not know what you are talking about and I was seeking information from informed people.

Your advice, to refer to the date on my re-entry permit, or entry stamp, would get me fined.

Yes. You need to report 90 days from the day you entered the country, and 90 days after that day, etc. But you can do it by mail, and probably by the web this year or next.

All indications it's going to be more heavily enforced, too. The new immigration chief really wants to cull the undesirables, and he's going to use reporting-and-computers to help.

Good feedback Joe, it would be nice to do it on the internet rather than traipsing down Threpasit/Thrappaya here in fun town.

I am not sure how the mail option works, my passport won't be going into an envelope and that mailbox surrounded by haphazardly parked motorcycles on Soi Post Office! ;) I do hope I remain desireable.... :D

I haven't done it, but you do NOT have to send your passport, this I know. Hit that link I gave above on "hints" and instructions are there or close by.

The longer you stay the better, but it never hurts to follow their rules and get even more brownie points.

I got my retirement visa Sep 2006 and have never done a 90 day report as I fly out of BKK before the 90 days is up. I did go down there this past Dec for my change of address when I moved into my condo and was told that was no longer a requirement as it would now be done on the 90 day report. So far extending my visa has been very simple. First day maybe 30 minutes at the office and the following day to pick it up maybe 5 minutes. I know some of our BMs enjoy going to the Immigration office as they like visiting the Yellow House afterwards and having a massage done by Tammy.

You have made me reconsider..... perhaps the retirement visa will be continued. Although about visiting Tammy... well I heard rumour a few guys had to visit a medic after! :devil

Or on the TM6 the next time you enter.

jacko - go get a real visa, then get a multiple re-entry. Life is way simpler, really. Plan your own trips on your own time, without worrying about the immigration/visa dates.

Joe, I have a non-Imm o with retirement extension valid until December, that is as real as I can think of, and I got already.

Just pondering if I would do it again.

I misunderstood maybe, but aren't you going out of the country to get a new visa? If not, my bad. If so, just roll it over every year, i.e. December this year, you don't ever HAVE to go out of Thailand if you don't wish to.

No, if you read the thread you may understand, I make personal trips to the UK, as I want to.

  • 3 years later...

FYI, just back from my 90 day report. I lucked out 90 days earlier and got the new computer generated TM47, so reporting this time was a breeze. No other documents or copies required. Unfortunately the new system was no longer working so they've reverted to the old way of doing things. Next report I'll have to bring a new TM47 and all the requisite supporting documentation.

Yeah bring it.... but they seem to show little interest in it in Jomtiem.
