I've done all but one visa runs via Savannakhet, few bath and 60 days. Looks like that will still be the same.

I don't get what's new. Immigration changed from 30 to 15 days for overland entries quite some time ago. If you have a visa, doesn't matter how you enter. What change are they on about?

It was new in 2008 when the Lonely Planet article was first posted. It has been mentioned here many times in the 2 years (exactly to today) since then.
