The government ALSO coerces and intimidates banks, especially state-owned banks, to lend money and/or forget debts as part of the popular populism of the day. There's a lot of it right now, what with elections due in about three months.

I'm not sure of the interest rate, but Thais can borrow for a year from a bank, pay back the loan with interest after a year, and then borrow the money again for another year.

This sounds similar but the loans i am thinking about were available last year Cheap loans !!!!!!!!! 1or2% a month!!!!!!

Why are you actually asking this question, the microfinance is max. 10K Bt, more like a pisstake IMHO.

The Isan farmers have always worked their ass off for next to fuck all, and they will always do, because that's the system, imagine them becoming financially aware, that would push prices skyhigh.

Those poor people have never been taught to think, and that's the very reason, that a cocksucker like Toxin could gather a "red shirt army" of Isan people, who still think he's the salt of the earth. :gulp

And while those people had their ass kicked in BKK, Toxin was laughing his ass off in a remote country, do you think he gives a flying fuck about his supporters? :thumbup

The reason i am asking is my girlfriend lends money out (mine)the profits from this help support her, but last year and this she says she has many customers that want to borrow money to repay the government, she lends it out, they then repay her shortly after when the government has relent the money to them. i presumed that the interest was 1% per annum but now think more likely its 1% a month I was looking for more detail on how it works By the way last year i gave her 100,000 for this purpose and instead of giving it me back she bought a piece of land!!!!!

LOL, seems she has some business acumen. :whistling:

But compared to the loansharks in Patts, 1 % a month is still a pretty good deal, they usually charge between 10-20 % a month. :thumbup

If she's for real, she can turn that land into a profit too, seems you're settled for life, just sit back and let her do the earnings. :thumbup

Joe Kicker i was being facitious of course it is a very high A.P.R Cocodile she lends money out at 5-10% a month and so far no one has renaged they pay the % each month but rarely repay the capital Yes she is pretty astute she has 12 cows and a large piece of grazing land i have always been a business man and have tried to find ways to minimise what i give her each month it took a long time persuading her that it was better to lend than have cows that need milking, feeding, and vets fees incidently the loans are secured against against cows. in Issan cow ownership comes after Gold as the thing to have

It's not all that bad a business, loan-sharking like your gal does. Usually, loan-sharks like her will lend to friends, friends of friends or people who give her some guarantee, often land. Keeping the business local, personal and fairly small, she can keep down the rates AND almost always get paid. There's always a lot of chasing and sob stories, but it's nice work in general. The big loan sharks are ruthless in all ways, starting with 10 pct a month.
