Anyone seen these shirts on sale in LOS yet ?

I will be there in 2 weeks when I hope to buy a few for family and friends to avoid the rip-off prices in the U.K.

I am informed that the Patpong Market in Bkk is the best place, but I have bought football shirts in the past at the Soi Buakow Market.

In Pattaya on 2nd road opp Thai Military Bank is a shop called Candy. it is next to Nif Travel agent and looks like normal clothes shop, go in and ask for football shirts "out back" they will take you thru mirrored sliding door and there they all are.

if you want larger quantities they will arrange delivery to UK by TNT or Fedex and sort paperwork etc

As stated earlier, these shirts are already here and all over town. Good quality copies are @4-5oobaht without a name on the back.

Are you talking about the new red ones ? If so I doubt if they are a proper copy and made of the new material either.

The last time England released a new shirt the early copies were poor imitations until someone could get a kosher one and then the streets were flooded with good copies.

Thanks Guys for your information !.

I wonder how many shirts I could take back without potential problems from HM Customs ?. I dont want to sell them just give them away to friends and family. If I could take 20 that would be great.

Now Crackpot we are not talking fooball on TV - just football shirts - there is a difference you know !

Cheers  Dave - Only 12 days to go !

Dave,

See the quote above. I've never tried to send any shirts back but friends have used Candys and they've arrived back in England no problem.

Lloydie,

The shop you are talking about! the one opp Thai Military Bank! use to be owned, run, buy Candy! like you said! as well as a guy called Tony! but they had a bust up! so the last time I was talking to her! she has moved down to soi 11! into a shop for herself! near the trurning for Honey Inn Hotel! (warning!!! IMHO best avoid staying there!)

Daveuk,

Every time I go to Pattaya! I alwise buy and bring a shit load of football shirts back to sell! it pays for my next trip out! even if you get pulled in by the HMC! for the amount you are planning to carry!(20) there shouldn't be a problem! I know of guys who have got stoped with a few more than that! and had no problem!

The cost of them all depends on how much you want to buy! for the amount I buy and bring back! the cost is 200 baht a shirt! if I were to buy more! probably I would end up paying less!

All the best!

Officially the customs could confiscate one copy shirt as they are illegal but they tend to let you thru ok as long as you're not taking the piss, 20 of the same shirt would now be guaranteed confiscation and your name on the blacklist which means you get stopped everytime you travel.

I was talking to a customs guy who told me that at Heathrow any kind of guy coming back from LOS with a holdall will get a pull and the first thing they look for is football shirts and DVD's.

So as the Thai say 'up to you' and anyway why not buy the pukka ones in England as I reckon Tesco's and JJB's will have offers on them as soon as they come out ?

Maybe! or maybe not! its the chance you take! have been to LOS now on 7 occasions! in which all have been sucessful!!! just the luck of the draw!

One thing I would like to mention is that I alwise buy a new holdall everytime! you know! the black ones that zip from one size up to a bigger size! with the logo Cannon on it, I think? tipically Thailand made! I buy them from the sellers on the steps at the beach side of The Royal Garden! and have never been pulled! but now I have said this! it would be sods law! and next time I will get pulled!  [smiley=doh.gif]

Daveuk,

I still think if you were to bring the odd 20 shirts back! you will be fine! but of-course! all that I have said is from mine and some other guys that I known experiences of carrying shirts back! and of my experience of not being pulled! so don't just take my word on this! maybe theres a member of this board who has been pulled for football shirts! and who has had the shirts confiscated and who has been added to the black list! who could tell you more on this! I hate to think that through listening to me! that you were the unlucky bugger that got pulled and black listed!

All the best!

I've heard there is a place on Second Road that for 500 baht will provide a nice footie shirt and for free will throw in a head shave and a bad tattoo.    ;D [smiley=leaving.gif]

Yeah, I know the place. It's a fancy dress shop, and I think you're describing their "typical Englishman" costume. ::)

be seeing you

stiffler...

I have always dealt with Tony, never had any problems.

"avoid staying here" where soi honey inn?

as for HM Customs... once you are on their list you get pulled every time, I'm on the list for ciggies and its a real pain getting pulled after a long flight, even when only have hand luggage they stop you. have been told I am on the list for life but not sure how true this is as the did tell me it was every UK airport but I have found out since it is only LHR (which is handy as its the only airport I use)

Lioydie,

I too have had no problems with Tony! but tend to buy from just Candy now!

When I say avoid staying there! I mean Honey Inn Hotel! IMO its is very dirty, dark, unfriendly hotel! their web-site pics were taken about 10 years ago, I think! because they look nothing like they are now!

Lloydie,

The Siam Saawasdee sounds very familiar! but as I have not stayed there! I cannot comment! I am staying at Eastiny Place! soi 8! from 9th April onwards! the guys on this board gives it a good  [smiley=thumbup.gif] I am paying 750 baht anight! but I suppose if you are planning to stay a good while! you can agree on a cheaper rate!

I pay around 200 - 250 baht per shirt! for around 30 - 50 shirts! how many are you thinking of? I am not sure wether she does feded or TNT! but should imagine so! because she is competing against Tony now!

Anyway! how does feded, TNT work? how much does Tony charge! how long does it take for the shirt to come back! what about customs! how reliable is the service!

I cant remeber how much Tony charges, have done any since world cup 02.

But Fedex and TNT deliver door to door and do customs clearance while the goods are in transit so they are cleared on arrivel in UK, funny thing is I work for DHL and they wont do this due to the fact they are copies.

I will be doing a 100 a time, I think before it worked out an extra 50p a shirt for all delivery and paperwork, the charge is done but weight or volume size.

I arrive 2nd so we'll have to hook up and investigate all options.

Lloydie,

Sounds good! PM me near to the time! if not! I'll PM you!

Whats the score with customs if you were to send them back by TNT! do they check inside the package vigorously! and what are the odds of them comfiscating all the LOOT!!!

Take it easy!

Guys if you've got a good system for bringing these in I'ts best not to broadcast it .It's not beyond the bounds that a customs officer is a member of this forum . Most of them are as bent as us but you do get the jobsworths,

I've worked at LHR all my working life on import clearances so I'm speaking from experience in both freight and courier companies. Airborne was one that Llloydie will probably know.

The reason these are getting through is due to where they are being cleared and the volume going through each day.

My courier knowledge is a little out of date so correct me if I'm wrong Lloydie . I think TNT clear at southampton whereas Fedex and DHL clear at Ema .

Ema used to be the training ground for Customs officers

and you had all these new officers wanting to prove their worth.Paperwork and goods were stringently looked at.Southampton was a lot more laid back.

I think you'll find in TNT's trading conditions they do not

carry counterfeit goods . I very much doubt the goods are described as English tops on the paperwork.

These courier companies have literally thousands of parcels passing through and it's impossible for hmce to check each one.

However if they are pointed in the right direction they will examine more goods from Los than they currently are.

The small volumes you're doing would probably result in

confiscation but if hmc can prove regular shipments you'll be jailed .

A mate of mine got 3 years but he was doing containers of fake gear.

I'm not trying to put anyone down or scaremongering .  I may even be currently doing this but keeping it to myself. You can make good money as you know.

That's why it's best to be talking about these schemes

one on one over pint . When you know who you are talking to.

Imho

DHL clear at both LHR and EMA, I always thought Fedex was at LHR but not positive on this, unsure about TNT.

If you are sending a small amount of mixed shirts then "sample shirts" can be used, as you can declare say 10 USD as value and it wont even need clearance but not sure what they put for a 100 shirts.

In DHL's case they wont carry fakes but their security policy is when an account is established it is only subject to random search (and this is a percentage of what goes through the airport (hub) that day not just that customer, so very small chance of it getting pulled as the percentage is normally reached by searching "unknown" shippers.

Airbourne is now part of DHL I believe or will be shortly.

Got to check this out more when I'm living there, its good to have a bit of "courier" info
