I've never had a problem with mosquitoes (the correct word, by the way) in Pattaya.

Perhaps it's because I tend to live on high floors and don't go out during the day...but it's never been a problem.

Are mozzies scared of vampires then Martin lol lol

I use the Tiger Balm for the itchy swelling when I do get bitten, that works a treat. For simple revenge you cant beat one of those tennis racket zappers, great fun ay under 200 baht from Tesco.

Hours of fun mate, and good excersise lol

You telling me that I need to work on my sense of humor is about the funniest thing you've ever said, but not in a humorous sense...funny like ludicrously dim.

Thank you for confirming my point about mossies though..fat, hairy and smelling of vinegar is the best repellent.

many moons ago after i was eaten by a horde of hungry mozzies a former tirak bought me a bottle of garlic capsules and told me to take one daily all year round. now all i get is maybe 2 or 3 bites over a trip and a dab of tiger balm takes the itch out of them in no time

Thats better nearly funny then,i also forgot about garlic too,but they stink too.If you have any mates who are fat and hairy do a competition for them, maybe 5 beers at 95 baht or similar, and get a bottle of vinegar free, the cheap thai one though.

I would just like to clarify is it....

Apple Cider Vinegar.

Balsamic Vinegar

Cane Vinegar

Coconut Vinegar

Red Wine Vinegar

Rice Vinegar

Sherry Vinegar

White Wine Vinegar

or good old Malt Vinegar?

Perhaps any of the above, or will the stuff I drain off my tinned red salmon (malt of course) suffice.

It sure should make me smelly to go along with my overly hairy and fat qualifications.

Martin raises a good point saying that some are bit and some are not. Here is a theory. As a youngster I had an ailment that affected my blood enough to stop me giving donations. I am almost never bitten or bothered by anything flying. I have been told that its the blood disorder that the insects don't like (smart little bastards). I wonder if in fact there are other ailments that we have in our life that turn insects off? Could be as simple as measles or chicken pox. Whatever, this is one persons response and perhaps it applies to others.

I used to get bad reactions to Thai mosquito bites, big red patches and a lot of swelling; but on this last trip they didn't bother me any more than bites at home in Canada do so I must have built up some kind of tolerance to the little pests over time. That being said, I rarely get bites in the daytime, mosquitoes are more likely to be active at night when it is somewhat cooler, especially if you are around any kind of vegetation. They tend to fly low, I always get bitten from the knee down unless it happens at night in my room when I am sleeping. When I remember to, I coat my lower legs with a product named Muskol which we used to be issued with where I worked - strong and very effective, don't get it near your eyes!!

The worst mosquitoes I came across on my recent trip were right on Sukhomvit Rd in BKK - sitting at the the little sidewalk bars next to the planters by the curb, I got eaten alive - this goes to show that you can be attacked by them anywhere.

My first trip to Scarboro,Toronto was my worst for bites.I sat outside my Aunties house for a ciggie,as she had packed in,so didnt want to blow smoke in the house, and the next day i had about 80 bites, and felt rough for 3 days. Now they dont seem to bother me,albeit,i still get a few bites if i dont put cream on.
