Motorcycle road tax

Recommended Posts

It is time to renew my road tax/insurance. Are there places in town that can do it or do I have to go out to the land transport office?
You can do the compulsory insurance at an insurance brokers too.

In fact if you take on supplementary (more comprehensive) insurance it is a good idea to get that and the compulsory from the same company. It is recommended for farangs too as the compulsory/ government insurance does not carry enough of a bond to cover farangs.

The sticker for the bike (registration/tax), well you pretty much have to go out there to the vehicle registration place on Rt36 (not the land office). There are some outfits that will take care of it for you at a charge, but I get the TGF to take care of mine.

I never go out to the registration office. I just go to one of the bigger motorbike dealers and they will take care of it for a small fee around 200 baht as I recall. i cant be bothered driving out there and waiting around.

this service is very handy if you are not going to be in thailand when its due as you can drop the green book off before you leave, they will pay it and keep the new sticker for you until you get back. I use the honda dealer on the corner of third road and soi leng kee, but anyone handy to you should do.

Yes there are.

I used this year the temporary "office" that is present every Saturday at Big C South Rd (near Sukhumvit)

Come there with your green book and it takes no more than 5 minutes.

Yes, being out of the country a lot is the main reason that I use one of the MB dealers to pay it for me.

I went to Mityon and they did it for me. Pick it up in two weeks. Still thinking about adding 2nd class insurance for theft, but have to find an agent.

Theft insurance is often offered with a new bike by the dealer, after that it is rather expensive.

As far as I'm aware if the bike's over 2 years old you can't insure it for theft.Third party insurance is possible through,AA insurance near Big 'C',South Pattaya. Can't remember the cost but I think it's around 3000 bt for the year, pretty good insurance too.
