I was wondering if it is safe to plug a IPAD into an outlet? The reason I ask is because I plug my Japanese cell phone to charge it and it fried the phone. I do not want the same to happen to my IPAD. Please advise if possible. Thanks ... zarusoba

Look at your iPad. A sticker will say whether it can take power up to 220/240. Almost all iPads can take 220, but yours specifically says on it if this is true. So does your phone.

i am using an iPad right now and an iPod and a Macbook Pro. Apple power supplies are 120/240V switching adapters.

Never say "always". There's always an exception. It doesn't cost anything to take 15 seconds to check. It costs quite a lot if you don't check and just plug it in as the OP already did once.

Got a cite on that? I actually don't doubt it, but I still have a niggling doubt about "always".

 

And even when I get the cite I will still look anyhow at MY Apple stuff to make sure MY Apple stuff is included. They don't charge you for that look.

I've had an iPod since 1st Gen and Touch as well and an iPad and have yet to see a 120V only PS.

 

For the mac, since the Powerbook which was dual voltage, as well.

 

I did some research for you - there was the "Ben Franklin" iPod .000001 Generation which said on the power supply you needed "1 kite and a storm". So there was something other than 120/240V.

 

BTW anyone who doesn't take the 10 seconds to read the input voltage written on a power supply pretty much deserves what they get.

That is the only point I've made in this thread. It's there for you to see. Look at it. I can't figure out why there *is* a thread. It's hardly rational for *me* to ask *you* the power rating of *my* stuff when I can hold it in my hand and see it.

Maybe zarusoba the OP is blind and we've helped him tho' if he is he can't read the help and if he's not then he's a wee bit too lazy to read what it says on the power supply.

Well phones are not normally rated at 220/240v, the chargers are. Rather a poor quality charger that doesn't handle the higher voltage and passes that over to the phone to fry it!

Fair enough.

 

You failed to mention, though, that the iPhones can't be plugged into a wall socket and therefore can't be fried by the wrong voltage.
