Thai Airways, Never Again

Recommended Posts

I recently flew Thai Airway Manila to Bangkok. I've been flying Thai off and on for 30 years, but never again. The plane was late arriving so it was late leaving. Thai switched in a smaller plane then advertised when I booked, so it was packed. The carpets were filthy and looked like they had never been cleaned. An overhead panel was loose, falling down and no one seemed to care. Parts of my tray table were cracked/broken.The worst of all is that I am a senior citizen so instead of heavy carry-on like younger people I checked mine and Thai charged me $85us. Just a few days before I had flown from Seattle to the Philippines on Asiana with the same bags and Asiana charged me nothing. I saw people with bigger/heavy bags and taking them on the plane with no problem with Thai employees. Its sad when an airlines that used to be one of the top in the world is missmanaged down to the level Thai has sunk. I tried to contact Thai on their web site comments/complaints department, but it is/was out of order. Shows were the management of Thai is at. I advise avoiding Thai. A recomment Asiana Airlines.

Yes I flew with Thai a couple of times from the uk and never again antiquated planes seats clapped out cracked tables as you say etc and like you never again. Their price would put me off anyway its much higher than my usual choice Etihad. I also understand when you say about the asians and on board luggage its just something that seems to be accepted ,they go on like pack mules and any westerner is penalised and by the time you realise its too late! Although that said I have seen cebu pacific tighten down on a few of their own people and charging excess luggage.

They allow 20 Kilo's which is 44 pounds total checked luggage with no charge. This is stated plainly on the eticket. Can't comment on your other issues but I have flown them many times out of Inchon Korea with no complaints or problems. I have also flown Asiana with no problems but they don't have the flight times that I want and Thai Air does.

I use Thai about 4 times a year lonh haul. Compred to others it seems no better or worse say than Malaysian or indeed Qantas or BA. Sorry just my opinion.

I missed a flight earlier in the year and totally no issues getting a re-booking.

Last two flights were both early arriving (great when your heading to Bangkok-another hour in Patts first night!)

As much booze as you care to ask for.

Reasonable food.

If you are flying economy class it certainly puts them way above say BA, who cut of the drinks very quickly.

Only been on Thai one time out of ICN but the plane was fine from there to BKK. My luggage was checked through so no problems. Both pieces were over 20K.

Asiana now has much better connections out of O'hare anyway. No more 10 12 hours layovers. I think it is now a little over 2 hours going and 3 - 4 hours coming back. Asiana has never even weighed my bags. They just tag em and send them on.

I have flown Thai before and it is one of the best flights out of LAX that is available. Well worth the extra money for the non-stop, which means no long layovers in Inchon (Asiana), etc. There and back, easy, peasy. Great plane with all the best, even in economy. I will not fly any other airline unless absolutely forced to do so. Gets me in BKK very early in the morning and I leave late at night, which in essence gives me almost an extra day on any vacation I take to LOS. I have never flown on any of their outdated equipment like the OP, but as far as getting there and back from stateside, it is the best option available for me.
