For you no problem, how would you get it there?

 

I'd just ride with all my gear. Backpack, duffel and computer bag. I've ridden from Vancouver to Vegas to San Diego and back so Hua Hin ain't a stretch. ~5,000 km. (I was too afraid to ride in Mexico so I just walked across).

 

edit.... I thought there might be an insurance/registration issue.

I thought most bike rentals in Pattaya were restricted to local use only.

Most bike companies do not let there bikes go outside chonburi, we do allow it , but only with people we know.

 

Definitely not a trip I would ever attempt on a scooter, BKK to Pattaya is the furthest I have done and did not enjoy it one bit.

 

Taking the bike on the bus with you is a good option, have to check the prices to see if it is cost effective

so, is there a special lane where the bikes bypass the toll? Does one just pick any lane and get waved or do they need to pay a toll?

Some years back I know motorcycles were prohibited from express ways and motorways, there also used to be a ban on bikes over 150cc being sold. Not sure how far back that goes, I have been seeing Harleys and big bikes here for donkey's years.

I have been reading an old Thaivisa thread which suggests the law never got changed and all bikes are still banned!

I see scooters on the shoulder on the Pattaya-Bangkok toll highway all the time.

And bigger bikes that can keep up with the traffic riding in the traffic lanes.

They are all breaking the law?

I think the limit is 250cc , not sure, smaller than that I think you have to travel a different route

 

Highway roads are ok to travel on but expressways and motorways cannot

 

According to Google maps, avoiding tolls increases the travel time from 3 hours 40 minutes to 4 hours 7 minutes. Rather than just hopping on a bike and going the same old way I guess I'll have to plan this one out a bit. NP.

Yeah and I see them riding towards me on the wrong side of the road being driven by a helmet free infant who is on the phone.

Seems like the bigger bikes are just going ahead and using the motorways and tollways.....just couldn't find a definitive statement as to the law change.
