Does anyone who is insured with axa know which hospitals they use in Pattaya?

I have the flyer in front of me and it specifically states 'a list of hospital network will be supplied to each member'

So sorry I can't find anything.

I too am looking at health insurance. The previous one used by PEC went up 30% and I didn't think it worth the price, so I took 6 months or so with 'April'. I wasn't impressed with their admin and the fact they were based in France. Now is the time for me to look around again. I need to settle in with some company before I am too old to get signed up. Tempted to just spend a lot and get BUPA!

I looked into taking insurance before hitting the dreaded 61 y.o. I used a broker whose name is mentioned on the forums from time to time.

 

I concluded that the potential maximum payout didn't justify the premiums. Self-insurance is the way to go!

Jacko, I agree with you on the seemingly ponderous admin at April, but I have been with them for a year now and Cyril, at Global Solidor, the broker, is very good. I have had one occasion to speak to them on the phone to France and the person on the other end spoke excellent English. I had a knee operation at Bumrungrad in June and April settled directly with the hospital. No excess and no hassle. I took along the claim forms but Bumrungrad's claims dept. didn't seem to require them. BTW the claim was handled on behalf of April by AXA!!! At the age of 64 I haven't found a health insurance better with as much coverage and no excess. At my age I'm going to have to stick with them, but I'm pleased I found them before it was too late.

I had travel insurance with AXA when I had a heart attack in Pattaya.

 

I went to PIH and the hospital called their Emergency Help Line. They assured the hospital that I was covered and that they would pay all my bills direct.. Despite their claims, they didn't fax the hospital authorisation. I had to pay the hospital cash. Hard to do from the ICU. I was wheeled down to the lobby every day so that I could withdraw cash from the ATM.

 

Once I was out of ICU, I had to get myself out of the hospital because I had used up all my spare cash and it would take me a while to get more cash transferred from home. The Doctor refused to sign my release. He said if I left the hospital I'd probably die. I settled my bill and unplugged myself from the machines and went back to my hotel. I was on the phone to the cunts at AXA every day. In the meantime, I visited PIH every day for a check up. The Doctor said I needed a stent fitted but they couldn't do the procedure and that I needed to go to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.

 

So I went to BPH and admitted myself there. The hospital administration wanted me to pay cash but I insisted they keep talking to AXA. Eventually they came to some agreement and a stent was fitted. After @ a week the Doctor released me and I went back to the hotel. After @ another week or so I had to go back to BPH for a check up and do various exercises/physical tests so that I could get a certificate to fly on the plane.

 

In the meantime, I was calling AXA every fucking day and every day they told me that they were going to pay PIH and that they'd call me when the payment went through and I could then go to PIH and get my cash refunded. The call never came. I went back to England and after a couple of weeks I contacted AXA and told them I was going to sue them. They insisted that they'd already paid PIH. I thought fuck it, I can't be arsed with these idiots anymore, I'll let my Solicitor handle it. Shortly afterwards, I got a letter from the British Embassy in Bangkok informing me that PIH had contacted them and that they had money for me at the Cashier's Office at PIH.

 

I didn't fancy calling PIH from London trying to organise them to send me a refund. I was planning on going back to Patts soon anyway so I will deal with it when I return.

 

Next trip to Patts, I went to PIH and the Cashier gave me a cheque, refund for most of the money I had paid cash previously. I opened an account with Bangkok Bank and paid the cheque in. They issued me an ATM card and I used that to withdraw my money.

 

Basically, AXA are a bunch of cunts and I wouldn't recomend them to anybody.

 

Don't believe all the Spiel on their Sales Literature. Just one phone call to our International Helpline and we will handle everything for you, blah blah blah. WHAT A LOAD OF OLD BOLLOX :hairout

 

I'm still out of pocket but I intend suing them when I'm back in England. Cunts :hijack

What a worrying story, where i live in Pattaya - there is the Thai (actually he is Australian - born to Thai parents in Australia)doctor who is the farang translator at the hospital (BKP) and i recently had a big health check paid for by my company. He told me they dont like the insurance copmanies as it can take atleast a month to get their money from them. He said it was "preferred" that you pay cash and get your own refund. I am now covered with CIGNA and i have a list of entitlements which i can get each year. I have also rang them and asked about hospitals at home and they said that they have an office in BKK and would send someone to any hospital if needed to make sure payment is made.

That is good feedback, although I do not use that particular broker.

Another broker reported April had failed to pay out on 3 instances he had heard of.

As stated tha admin is hopeless, hardly inspiring confidence, and when I sent payment (where I had to create a bank transfer in USD, I started with GBP, and it was going to France where Euros should be used), I got into a pissing match over some grasping bank taking another $30 piece of my money. I had paid charges already at my end.

Glad they worked well for you, perhaps my broker is more at issue!

 

I see above a post deriding AXA..... Bazle may just be right. I have spent many 100,000s baht on insurance and nevery yet needed it, nor tested it. Wonderful if you are wheeled to the impressive long row of ATMs every day at the BPH!
