Yes due to rise again..... you are lucky you fly economy.... imagine what I have to pay. :D

I have this idea that they want to kill off air travel.... do you think this means we will get a better class of Brit in LOS, or just more of those whose countries do not tax the shit out of their people?

The taxes are a fucking pain. Started as a "green" tax, now just another way for the government to take more of my (already taxed and N.I'd) income.

But the thing that pisses me off even more are the fuel surcharges. I thought these were meant to cover sudden, unexpected increases in the price of fuel. Say where the airline basic ticket price had been set when the price of oil was £50 a barrel but then the price jumped to £75. But some of the airlines have been charging a fuel surcharge for about 5 or 6? years now. Its just a way of trying to hide the price, I expect in the hope that a lot of people see the words "taxes and fees" and blames the government for the lot, not just the taxes.

But the really big pisser is that when I use my airmiles the fuckers still charge me all the surcharges/taxes and fees. So having saved up enough miles (in 7 return trips with Thai, paying about £100 extra each time for a mileage earning flight) my "free" 1st class return award flight from Heathrow will cost me £435 AND I WANT IT FOR FREE.

Mind you, I am going first class for the first time ever. EVER. That's got me so excited I don't think I'll need to shag anything when I get there!!! I almost feel sorry for the poor cunts who will travelling in the cabin at the same time as me because I am a total peasant at heart and will be nicking everything that isn't fucking nailed down.

Looking to book Jet Airways via Westeast travel for 2 month trip in March....

Flight cost 167 pounds

Taxes/fees 316 pounds !!!

Aren't taxes meant to be going up 1st April as well ??

I can't see what the big issue is. The average cost (to the passenger) of a flight UK/BKK/UK is much the same now as it was 10 years ago. Which columns the airline chooses to put the different elements that make up the fare isn't really important - that's more to do with them reducing the amount of the fare that they pay commission to travel agents on. The passenger tax is not much different to 20% VAT being stuck on the price of an economy ticket and it's not as if the airlines are suddenly going to turn round and reduce the price of a ticket if there was less tax. They'll continue to charge what the market will bear.

Ditto. I was just there between Christmas and New Year's. Total price: $1460. Ticket price was about 900 bucks and the fees came to 560. Ridiculous.

Assuming your on Thai, there is nothing worth nicking.

I flew out on Business class on Thai at Xmas and the only thing worth nicking was the "economist" magazine from the Business class lounge at Heathrow.

On my return i had booked "First class" on Jan 2nd, check in was great and they gave me a free glass of iced water while they did my baggage, opened up a locked toilet

so i could pee and then locked it again and walked me through security whilst holding back the business class queue, then a motorised trolley took me to the first class lounge

where they cooked me breakfast/pot of tea and a few bacardi and cokes.

They then walked me to the plane (747) and handed me over to the crew, glass of champagne and stuff and only 6 in first of the 10 seats available, i had pre booked my meal

and ordered the Lobster thermidor which wasn't bad but a tiny lobster, the other meal was better a piece of beef but the other bits were mostly all sent back as i didn't fancy any of it.

(too fancy)

Had bacardi and diet coke on board and after the first drink they ran out of diet coke, blaming the floods in Bangkok(normally when i fly business on thai i nick 3 or 4 cans of diet coke

for the flight home but in first i didn't see any to nick).

Even the toilets in first didn't have any eau de toilette or anything.

Ok, now they are running the A340-600 for a few months so it could be a little different but i wouldn't bank on it.

Its sounds good,

But with the price of a first class ticket i would want. A bg. at least

Fucking hell Glynbuk - talk about spoiling the moment.!!!

Mind you if it is shite I'll never admit it as I've been gloating like fuck about it. I'll just lie and tell everyone it was magic.

By the way, I've heard there is a smoking room in the first class lounge at BKK. Did you notice one while you were there?

Cheers

Fly on Cathay Pacific next time in first class and you won't experience anything as weak as this.

That's strange. 10 years ago I was paying Thai Airways £450 - £500 LHR-BKK- LHR, now I'm paying them £800 - £900 for 3 monthly return tickets.

Edit. They must see me coming!

That's the point. There's another thread running concurrently with this one listing loads of flights available for sub-500 quid. One specific fare on one specific carrier doesn't equate to "average".

First time i flew Thai (back in 2005) business class, i said after it that i would never fly thai again, nothing has changed except the

seat pitch was 50 inches and is now 60inches and its a slightly better "lie flat" and in first its a "fully flat bed" at about 78 inch pitch,

both of them are rock hard/seats/beds but i did sleep ok on the way back in first.

Compare this to my first class trip on Emirates in 2008/2009 flying partly on the A380 with 23 inch tv's in a suite with shower rooms etc on board,

now that was luxury, beautiful leather seats/beds that you just fell asleep on.

as for smoking rooms, i didn't look although there were a couple of glass fronted rooms with one person in each which could have been smoking i guess.

Looks like there are more domestic air travel taxes in Thailand coming our way soon as well.

http://www.bangkokpo...r-thai-airports

Regards

That link seemed to suggest it will only affect airports with Internaional flights.

And the last sentences contained the whammy...

Passengers using AoT-operated airports will also face a higher passenger service charge (PSC), or airport tax.

The PSC for international flights is expected to rise to 800 baht per head from 700 baht currently, while for domestic flights it will rise to 255 baht from 100 baht by mid-2013 if approved by the Civil Aviation Department in April.
