Yeah, it's all finished, but you do have to take a road west at some point to get to Pattaya, because Hwy 7 is inland. There isn't (as of the last time I came down from BKK) any construction or delay on 7.

Edit in: Scratch that...now 7, with the new extension offloading between Pattaya North and Pattaya Central connects with Sukhimvit indeed.

It's so recent that my out of date GPS says I am in some farm country when I take that section of 7.

All the way..... and at Sukhumvit you even have a choice of going left (south) for Klang and Tai or there are traffic lights to allow you to turn right,(North) towards Nua. Just ahead of that junction is an exit that will get you on the Southward side of the railway bypass rd to go towards Soi Siam CC road and the darkside. Edited by jacko

That section of road has been open at least 12 months, can remember my bus back to Bangkok heading out of Pattaya that was in May last year.

And it even shows on the Sat Nav map on my Nokia N8...

Your phone map is probably updated over the internet, so it's current.

Can it also do voice and turn by turn navigation?

I have a standalone GPS with a map file on local storage. Tom Tom 2010 doesn't show it.

I'm still waiting for the update that does voice navigation in Issan Lao dialect.

This is from the Thai ESRI map. This map is absolutely the most up to date map available for Thailand. It is compatible with Garmin GPS devices.

I too have a Nokia with a GPS. The Nokia map has the soi numbers in Jomtien mixed up. Google maps on my Android phone are a little better but if you ever use a dedicated Garmin, you will find that any of the maps available for smart phones suck.

The native ESRI Thailand maps are the best. The Garmin South East Asia map is outdated and points of interest are also way outdated. Tom Tom maps also suck and are outdated. I'm not a Garmin fanboy but the fact is that if you want the best Thailand map, a Garmin GPS with the ESRI map V 12.1 is the best. The Garmin Thailand prices have come way down and for 4,000 baht you can get a new GPS with the latest map.
