I have to agree.I have never seen one with CheezeWiz.I spent 18 months across the Walt Whitman in NJ back in the early 70s while in the Army. And have visited Philly many times since and never seen the Wiz.Nor much American either for that matter.Good 'ole swiss for me.

'Growing up near Philly, I don't remember the use of Cheez Wiz - it must've come along a bit later. I was always more of a sub fan anyway. Man there was a GREAT mom&pop sub shop right near where I lived - long gone now. If Pattaya had a place that made 'em like that I'd probably never eat anything else.

funny how there is no cheese nor steak in a typical Philly cheese steak.

You're not from around here, are you?

Really, where do you get these thoughts?

A Philly cheese steak has both (sliced) steak and cheese.

I thought it was provolone they (at least used to) use in Phlly Cheesesteaks. Maybe swiss in some places. 'Can't actually swear to the exact meat that was used, but I don't remember anybody ever using cheese wiz. (Then again, that was back in the 60s & 70s - cheese wiz maybe came along later.) These were sub shops - usually italian-owned. Hard to imagine them using cheese wiz...

The guys who invented it (2 shops adjacent to each other) use cheese whiz, but they're better with provolone. And mushrooms.

And a beer...... ?

Not trying to be rhetorical, ....but do they produce real dairy cheese at all in the US ? Or is it all processed? As a side-note I was surprised to find that Philadelphia cheese has nothing to do with Philadelphia. Just a "brand name" given because at the time all things Philadelphia were considered classy LOL. Classy Philadelphia !......Now there is an oxymoron if ever I saw one !!!

I stand corrected.Provolone it is/was.Being Italian(American) I gravitated to Italian sub shops.

Many local cheese makers in the US. I especially like Cabot cheese. There extra sharp cheddar is excellent. I'm currently in Pattaya and will give Tequila Reef's so called Philly cheese steak a try. I was born and raised in Philadelphia and I know a philly cheese steak. I've got the body and arteries to prove it.

The good, the not so bad and the ugly.

I stopped by the Reef today for lunch. First the good. I ordered the Mexican tortita soup. I've eaten this in the past and it never disappoints. The soup has a bit of a spicy bite to it. Very good soup and the Chief gave me enough time to eat it before the not so bad Philly cheese steak was served. If this were served in Philly they would go out of business. Given that Pattaya is 8000 miles from Philly it wasn't bad. Just mediocre, the roll was OK. The meat was not as greasy and the cheese was bland. Tho onions were OK. Would I order it again. No I would wait until I'm back in the Philly suburbs for a real cheese steak. Now for the ugly. The Reef used to serve tortitia and salsa for free. Now it's 40 Baht.
