Is there a rough wet market in Patts, where the animals are chopped up in full view of all? Where the tables are bloody and heads are everywhere?

If not,then any slaughterhouses nearby?

Thanx.

Additionally, anyone know where the ice houses are....the big suppliers of ice to businesses?

I'm looking for interesting industrial scenes to photograph....from the primitive and medieval,to the brutal and organized,as long as it has a Thai slant. All ideas welcomed....I'll be in Pattaya for a month so will have plenty of time during the day to track these places down.

I've seen one in my travels. This link has a list of local ice factories...it's got some animation advertising on it, so turn off your sound.

Thanx for that!

So many...I thought the ice suppliers were a mafia, like the suppliers of fortune cookies to Chinese resturants or bread sticks to Italians....as in,no competition allowed.

A few more, all from Klong Toey market a few years ago. I had a couple of these blown up,and put on my kitchen wall.

I stumbled by accident into a small wet market in Pattaya last year. It isn't visible from the street. It's down a spooky little alley way off the continutation of Soi 15 that runs past the school and Sikh temple towards Tukcom.

Here's a more detailed part of the map:

You walk down the alley past some loading docks and you're inside a large indoor market, with the wet section to the left. They were working on poultry when I passed by, but I saw a row of pigs' heads as well. You can exit to Pattaya Tai through a shop at the north end.

But it's a very small operation compared to Klong Toey.

EP,thank you very much.

I always find severed pigs heads very serene. Strange but true!

It's said that the only part of a pig that can't be sold is the squeal, and thats certainly the case at Klong Toey.

A few more from three years ago....

I must say, if these are yours, they're awesome photos. I'm forever promising myself to buy a good camera. As you say, there is so much potential to take great photos at places like this in Thailand.

Thanx Sam.

In fact, these were taken with a low-end Sony Cybershot.....I had heard Klong Toey was a sketchy part of town, and so went with a tiny pocket camera. In reality, the market is busy and uncompromising, and populated by a cast of characters who wouldn't look out of place in a horror film.....but actually safe. Not friendly though, its a harsh environment.

Klong Toey is a large an administrative region of Bangkok (a ket?)......the market,a small piece of this,is pretty hardcore....but the infamous slum is a ten minute walk away towards the docks, and thats the unsafe area.

I hope to be back in Thailand next week, and this time will carry a chunky Canon camera,as a lot of pictures I took were out of focus (so much movement here!) and they were edgy.....

I'll post a few more over the weekend.

Nice pics , you might want to try the small lanes of Chinatown or Yaowarat Bkk. Plenty of chinese food stalls there selling everything from live frogs to seafood to chinese medicine.

Not sure if its the same one as Evil is talking about but there is a similar wet market between Tuk.com and Walking Street. Exit tuk.com and walk towards Walking Street. Keep at eye on the stalls on your left and once you reach the stall selling mango sticky rice , turn into the small lane on your left. Keep walking inwards till you see all the live food/animals etc
