Suggestions for Hotel In South Pattaya

Recommended Posts

I need some help choosing a hotel for my trip in April. My first trip to Pattaya in 9 years was last June and I didn't recognize the place. I stayed at an old friends guesthouse in North Pattaya and although it suited my needs, I found all the baht bus rides and motorcycle taxis to be too much. Since I spend most of my time in South Pattaya, I was hoping some of you with more up-to-date info could offer me some advice. For something in the 500-1000 Baht per night range, I'm looking for at least a double bed, air, private bath, decent TV and reasonable security for my posessions and no problems having a girl in the room. I've been over some websites but first hand knowledge is always preferable. I'm leaning toward the Apex at this point. Any suggestions will be welcome.

BigMike is spot on with his recommendation.

Given that you are finding baht buses/bikes a pain then you would not want to be staying in the Soi 8 area if south Pattaya/walking street is your game.

You can walk from the Sandy Spring to Pattayaland 2 in about 3-4 minutes and it's not much further to Walking street from there as you doubtless know.

Having said that, I am starting to become reluctant to recommend this hotel (this might be the last time I endorse it  ;D  ;D) as it is becoming FAR too popular as word spreads. They have, since my last trip, become cute and decided that all seaview rooms are now superior rooms. Thus rooms that were previously available at 990bt (with membership) are now 1200. It was exceptional value at 990 but at 1200 they are now borderline for value at the very best. I'll probably stay there next month but they are starting to take the piss undoubtedly through their occupancy levels being high - yet another internet horror !!

Still - I can't complain (although I guess I am  :) ) as I would never have found the place either without the net !!

Cheers

Since you didn't mention a pool, I would recommend the Marine Yensabai Mansion on Soi Yensabai (Soi 18).  It's less than a 5 minute walk to FLB. Cost is 700 a night with a small discount if you stay for 2 weeks.  Hotel is just over a year old.

My favorite is the Welcome Plaza Hotel.  For several reasons:

- Location! One of the best locations in town - right across from Pattayaland 2 on 2nd Rd. It's near Walking St., near the RG mall, and on 2nd  Rd. so everything else is a baht bus ride away.

- Value - the best price I've seen for a A/C hotel room with a pool & a great location.  I've stayed there 8 times for 650 baht per night, for a walkin rate.

- Never had a problem bringing a TG back to the hotel.

Of course nothing's perfect - the rooms are a bit worn.  There are plenty of nice hotel rooms in the city for 1000 baht.  But  the even though the rooms are not new, they are clean.  And there are no in-room safes.  Free boxes are available at the main desk of the hotel.

No question this is where I will stay when I return to the LOS.

OUCH - 1050 baht for a walkin rate at the Welcome Plaza!

They were only charging 650 in November 2003 (when I was last there).  While I would recommend them at 650, there is no way I would recommend it for 1050. There are nicer places out there.  Maybe I would look at the Dynasty Inn for 990.   Everything's brand new there.

I'll still check out the Welcome Plaza, but if they can't get me the rate that I have been used to, I will look elsewhere!

Thanks for the heads-up Lazyboy.  Can anyone else confirm this rate change?
