Long term no ! ; But you can guarantee that they will get a hugely inflated transfer fee for him though. I think one of the 2 Spanish sides may be the eventual destination.

Didn't Real enter into some sort of partnership with Spurs at the time of the Modric deal? I'm sure Real would be prepared/over the moon to offer the Croatian as part-exchange for Bale.

Triple that figure and Spurs will sell him.

Wherever he goes (if he goes) no one will pay that much for him. People in the press are comparing him with Ronaldo and Messi which is ridiculous, he's good but he's not that good. If Spurs were offered anything in excess of twenty-five million he will go, they're not going to turn down that much money as they're not that rich.

He will go for more than 25 he is a rare talent, ability aside his coolness infront of goal I have never seen,,,,,,,,,,,,, The irony is Van Persie has had a great start at United, but he should have scored 2 more v Madrid... thats the biggest game and he has never done well in highest pressure games, best of luck to United V Real but those misses may my haunt him..

Bale has a possible 5 games coming up on the International stage to showcase his talents. If Spurs get into the Champions League next season I expect we will be able to hold on to him and if he continues his form I reckon he would be valued @ 50 mill at that time (summer of 2014).

I'm quite sure Levy has already started to do the sums - it'll be purely a business decision when to let him go. Nowt wrong with that. I'm not sure about the Spanish "Big Two" though ... I'm not convinced Bale would fit into Barca's style of play and Real have got Modric to remind them of what looks good at Spurs might not look so good in Madrid.

To be perfectly honest; I never heard anyone, other than the media clowns, who rated Modric particularly high anyway. They certainly know how to extract silly money for average (if that) players: Modric, Carrick, Berbatov & Ruddock (He wasn't worth 2.5p let alone 2.5 Million Pounds), to name just a few! 50 Million "might" just get Bale at the moment, IMVHO.

I'd lay money on it that he won't go for fifty million if he does leave Spurs. Any one fancy a bet with me?

I won't be having a wager with you because of the FFP Regulations and the uncertainty that surrounds them.

However, a Sportsmens' Bet of a Beer is something I don't have a problem with. Yes?

I reckon Saints supporters would love to see all the talent that they have produced in recent times, back at the club and playing for them! Must be one of the best youth systems in the country.

You mean you'd break your anonymity so that two great minds can meet? ;) I'm up for that.

I don't think he will go for that much because there are only two or three clubs in Italy, Spain or England that have that sort of money and would be willing to pay that. I can't see him going to Italy and it's very doubtful he would go to Real Madrid or Barcelona, for one thing he wouldn't be guaranteed a game every week if he went to either of those clubs. As for English teams, well, only City or United could afford to pay that much although I doubt they would. City are wealthy enough to pay that for him but do they really want or need him?

It means nothing if the club's policy is to sell all their best players. Southampton are a poorly run club and have always lacked ambition.

"Ambition" is only as deep as the owners' pockets or their commitment ... For too many its just a business nowadays.

Wasn't too long ago when you could have said Man City were a poorly run club and lacked ambition.

Back to yesterday's game and good to see Kagawa doing well after injury. Giggs set for his 1,000 appearance on Tuesday against Real Madrid. Ferguson said both players would feature in the game but who will he start?

I disagree. How can any club that has a record of selling all their best players ever be considered as a team with ambition? Before City were wealthy they weren't a team that were known for selling all their best players. Look at the players that Saints have sold over the years, Shearer, Bridge, Walcott, Bale, Chamberlain and they're just the ones I remember off the top of my head. Explain to me how a club that has ambition made the decision to sell all those players? :clueless

Probably because they weren't known for producing (m)any top players worth selling. Of their Premiership-winning squad, how many were actually home grown? Micah Richards? Remember him?

Southampton, for their sins, did (as far as I recall) have a reputation for retaining their best players such as Le Tissier and Channon.

Le Tissier was a one off and I'm not concerned with what happened in the seventies, all of the players I mentioned as examples that left Southampton for other clubs are from the last ten years. Do try to keep up Thomas.

Le Tissier was a one off

A term often used, confusingly, to describe both Giggs and Scholes.

:clueless Alan Shearer? Sure! Perhaps you mean the last 25 years? :ninja:

Try and keep up, Sammy. :thumbup

Are you going to the United game in BKK?

Other than Shearer those players are all from the last ten years. Saints do not have a reputation for keeping hold of their best players now, that's my point. I'm not interested in what happened in the seventies.

Sam, what about the ambition of the players themselves?

Somehow I think Shearer, Bridge, Walcott, Bale, Chamberlain, etc. had bigger dreams that Southampton.

Arsenal have also sold off their best players recently. You could say they "lack ambition" but RVP and Fabregas both wanted to move on. The same for Nasri, Ashely Cole, etc.

Man U sold Ronaldo in his prime ....

When Bale eventually moves on will you say Spurs lack ambition?

Like it or not, player transfers are a big part of the game today. Many of the smaller clubs are forced to sell for financial reasons or because of the player's own desire.

How can that be your point when you specifically referred to Shearer; a player who left the club over 20 years ago? :clueless

Let's forget about the players I mentioned and start again shall we? Saints sell all their best players, that's a fact. You cited two examples of players that they kept hold of (even though Channon left them for City but we'll ignore that), one of them is Le Tissier which is a one off and one from the seventies. I am not interested in what happened in the seventies, I'm more interested in what has happened more recently.

As for the game in Bangkok, I won't be going because I'm not in Thailand any more. I was at Old Trafford yesterday.

Except, it appears, the likes of their current captain who has been at the club since the age of 12. Is that recent enough?

Teams cant afford to keep the players, the players are offered double the money the sellers have no choice...

None of the millions and millions of pounds made from the sale of players is invested into making suitable replacements at Southampton. Fact.

Quite. :thumbup

They appear to have spent quite a bit for this season ... Personally, I think that the 20m spent on Ramirez and Rodriguez is a waste of money that City would be proud of.
