I was talking to a guy last week and he told me how cheap the Queen Sirikit Hospital at Sattahip is compared to the bkk pattaya

does anyone here have good or bad experience down there, I reckon due to heavy traffic on Sukhumvit, it maybe just as quick to get down to Sattahip as it would bkk pattaya if traveling from Pattaya Tai

Queen Sirikit hospital is quite an old hospital, but i have known some people to have had operations there and have come out very well and much cheaper. Remember it is a "government" hospital so its not exactly modern as other hospitals, but all aside, it is much cheaper and they a good hospital.

I have just been in BKK Pattaya hospital and i was appaled at the poor service and had 5 doctors look at me in one day and all made different diagnosis's, eventually i got to see one doctor who knew what she was doing and got well after about 8 days. They tried to tell me the first 2 days in hospital would be 60k just for the room, until i complained - they then reduced the room charge to 7k per night. If you do go to the BKK Pattay hospital, be very carefull about the charges and the hidden charges, they will charge you for absolutely everything

That would need a very strange state of affairs in the Sukhumvit north bound

I can remember when they opened the place, while I am pretty sure Bangkok-Pattaya was there before I even arrived in the LOS.

I have been told the same about the Sattahip hospital, is it the one in the Naval grounds? I was told that many of the doctors from BP Hospital also operate and attend there, but one of our members has had a rather poor experience from them at BP. I had an MRI for a severe back condition and they wanted to operate on my disc.

I sent the MRI back to my orthopaedic surgeon in Aussie (regarded as a gun here) he told me it was the worst one he ever saw and no one could do a proper diagnoses on the basis of that MRI . I came back to Aussie for my back surgery.

I think medical attention is a bit of a lottery in Thailand, but am not sure it is much better anywhere else in the world these days.

Can anyone give me a leg up to medical insurance in Thailand, will be coming to retire there next week and my only real concern is decent medical cover, just want hospital and none of all the other crap.

Big Names are

April.

BUPA

AXA

etc etc....

Might be easiest to talk to the Insurance brokers at the Expats Club. One of the first decisions you have to make is the level of insurance...full cover 60-70,000 baht p.a. depending on your age. Or less/ budget cover maybe 20-30k p.a. The Club offers a group plan.
