On a previous trip i took a public taxi from Suvarnabhumi to Soi 4 (BKK) and my driver took great delight in telling the other waiting Airport taxi drivers that he was taking to me to Nana 'kua'.

What does that mean?

Sure he didn't say "Kuay" ?

It's an obscene word for penis, and often used as an insult to people! :whistling:

Plahgat

It was definitely pronounced 'koo ah'.

Perhaps a play on words or an 'in' joke? There is a 'Nana Nua' (soi 3).

I only remembered this because my friend got a taxi to Pattaya and the driver asked if he wanted 'Pattaya Kua'. Now i'd normally assume he misheard 'Pattaya Nua'....but he knows that word and they don't sound alike.

Dee-khua means better? Was that it? khua meaning 'more' but requiring an adjective.

Ah.....that would make sense.

As long as it ir pronounced 'koo ah' and not 'choo ah'.

I will have to run it by my friend's Thai wife (though if my pronounciation is out by the smallest amount of pitch it will become utterly nonsensical to her!)
