I have to stay one night in Bangkok before going to the airport.....does anyone have any recommendations about hotels around the Nana Plaza area??

Don't want to spend too much and looking for something clean.

I like the  www.majesticsuites.com  on soi 4 right around the corner from Nana hotel and in the middle of everything. They have in room safe and cost about 1k per night. Guest friendly with no joiner fees.

TheGrand Inn on Soi 3 is a perfect place for a one night stay.  Their standard room is 990 baht.  It's clean.  24 hour access to safety deposit box ay desk.  Small hotel so in addition to my wake up call ( always on time) for my final night i gave the bellman 100 baht and told him to come get me if I wasn't in the lobby by 4AM.

They take the girls ID and call you to make sure all is OK when they leave.  No joiner fee.  Very friendly staff.

It's a two minute walk to Majestic Suites and NEP.

sales@grandinnthailand.com is the email for reservations.

Chris,

I agree with you. Very good hotel, clean, no road noise. I,ve stayed there for the past three years before going to Pattaya, this year I payed 870B, great service. There is a free  TukTuk service from the main road via a  telephone  link, but it only takes  few mins. to walk.

Just left  [smiley=crying.gif]

But will be back in 9 months

Hi, upena,

Tried to get in the Nana at the end of July 2003 they quoted 1,375B a night for their basic rooms and would not go any lower. I declined.

TabMule,

What is the walk of shame?

Posted

I understand it to be that walk between the hotel entrance to the reception and then to the lift with your chosen lady. A tongue in cheek phrase.

Posted

After making the above post I did a search on Google just to make sure the phrase I used was not a figment of my imagination. I have heard many expats use it but wondered if I had used it in the wrong context.

Interestingly, I came upon this poem by Malcolm Pryce.

The Walk of Shame

It's quite obvious she was a prostitute said Mrs Prendergast

Her face twitching with disgust

I don't know what gets into them

They're worse than elephants in musth.

Mrs Prendergast is a good friend of Father Bernhard

She gives up everything for Lent

And when she assumes the moral high ground

She takes along a couple of sherpas to carry her tent.

I don't know what possesses them

Is it something to do with the heat?

She was young enough to be his daughter

And did you see what she had on her feet?

Oh no Mrs Prendergast, please!

Please don't mention the boots!

Those huge gigantic, seven league boots

Cobbled from cork and PVC and destined to clump

Across the marble foyer of the hotel

And make the ex-pat look a chump.

Why don't they warn you in the bar?

Why don't they tell you?

The girl dancing in the bikini

Will leave wearing a fluorescent 'Hello Kitty' knapsack

Jeans with bunny rabbits embroidered on the pockets

And to complete the whole ghastly ensemble

Boots bigger than rockets.

It's the girl I feel sorry for, says Mrs Prendergast

They do it to buy a buffalo

Oh really what a laugh!

Then according to the name cards she had in her purse

I'd say the biggest supplier of buffalo to Thailand

Are United States Diplomatic staff.

And the BBC

I'm sorry Mrs Prendergast, I know I'm not the Pope

But I wish I could get 2000 baht an hour

Just for watching a Channel Seven soap.

And steal everything from the minibar while the guy is on the phone

If she's anybody's daughter Mrs Prendergast

I'd say it was Al Capone.

But stung by the censure I seek out Father Bernhard

In the matter of fallen women, it appears he's rather learned.

When I tell him about the girl with boots bigger than rockets

He says you mean the little cute one with bunnies on her pockets?

Oh my God! Father no! Can this really be?

Don't judge me too harshly my son, she said I was jai-dee

All the same Father, as a bearer of God's sacred logo

Surely you shouldn't be entering Playskool a Go-Go?

Consider Saint Augustine, my son, we're forever in his debt

Oh Lord give me chastity, he said - but not yet.

And since God made this banquet, is it right that we should fast?

Just make sure you don't tell Mrs Prendergast.

Nice poem, Tabmule!  Thanks for sharing it!

Just got back from LOS 36 hours ago and found a nice place I'd never stayed at before for the final night in BKK before catching the early morning flight out of Don M.  I usually stay at Majestic Suites on Suk between Soi4 & Soi6 but because of a reservation snaffo they were booked solid and I didn't have a place to stay the night of the 24th.  They found me a room at Omni Towers on Soi 4 about four blocks off Suk Av and I loved the place!  It wasn't quite as cheap as MS at 1600 baht/night but it was a great room with a kitchenette, sitting alcove and good bathroom.  The carpeting is near new and all the amenities you would expect in a 4 or 5 star hotel.  Security is great and I can't say anything about guest policies but they made a copy of my pooying's id I had brought along for the final night in LOS from Pattaya.  I'm not sure I would choose it for an extended stay (unless somebody else was paying the bill) but I might seriously consider making it my arrival and departure hotel in BKK when heading for Pattaya.

The only downside is if you want to walk back to Suk Av you will have to walk right past Nana and the beer bars in the area, and I have "history" at both Golden Bar and Morning & Night Bar outside Nana Plaza.  So when we went out for dinner I took a cab to Gulliver's and walked back after it was dark.

If you're in the market for an upscale location that's still close to the action, you might consider it.

The Golden Beer Bar is my favourite hang out place in Bangkok. I just love going there before a night on the prowl and having one or two cold ones. I get a seat looking out at the entrance to NEP and have to pinch myself that I'm actually here!

There was one cutie there last trip that I came close to bar-fining but I realised that if I did take her, then I may have to curtail my butterflying ways and that I could jeapordise my favourite people-watching place!

Yeah the Golden Beer Bar was a good one. Just earlier this year i was getting ready to head back to the US and i needed a Grand Finalie before i head out to the airport. I met Duang at the Golden Beer Bar for a short time. She was a Good STOOP.

I usually stay at the Nana Inn on Soi 3. Not the Nana Hotel but the Nana Inn.

I always stay there whenever i stay in BKK

Is the Golden Beer Bar the one on the corner, right hand side as you leave Nana car park??

Thanks Carl, I am a bit rusty on NEP, have not been there for a while.

I always read reports about how the Nana Hotel is a shit hole.  I stayed there several times and I only saw one cockroach. I didn't freak out-I just crushed it.  However, the carcass was still there at the end of my stay when I checked out.  Jimmy
