I think the question is what is important to you. To me the ambience or athmosphere is important, that's why I like the Welkom Inn. And it is guest friendly, bed is big enough for three if you are into threesomes. The garden is the perfect place to spend the afternoon. Location, don't go there if you prefer south, I prefer the quieter places though. It is rather quiet but close to the beach, beer bar complex on soi 2/3, 7-11, Big C. Very good Thai food, breakfast available all day so you don't have to wake up at 8, nice staff. But to be honest, the rooms are very basic, worn carpet, small bathroom, wooden walls so you aren't enjoying only yourself but also the guy next door and vice versa but in low season you won't have a neigbour. The Welkom Inn had a big plus untill four years ago, the Hippo cabaret, I really miss this cabaret.

I agree with Marc.  Clean basic rooms, the AC worked well and was easy to control and the wall mounted fans were a nice touch. I stayed in a pool side room that seemed to be recently renovated with new prefab paneled walls and a ceramic tile floor.  The food in the restaurant at the Soi 2 entrance was good although a little pricey.  The patio bar at the Soi 3 entrance was a nice place to spend the early afternoon hours.  There is also onsite “entertainment” in the indoor bar next to the patio.  As was mentioned there’s a lot to do in the immediate area to include a short walk to any of the 3 Sabai MPs.  The motorbike taxi ride to Walking Street takes only a few minutes and will cost you 40 baht.  My biggest complaint was that their internet facility on Soi 2 seemed to have a low baud rate (slow).

Welkom In is great!  My favorite palace in the world! Stayed there twice and will stay there again in September!  Great staff!  Great food both in the Soi 2 restaurant and in the Soi 3 garden!  Garden is a great place to sip a brewski in the adternoon.  You get treated really well by super friendly staff and management.  The girls at the bar next door will make you happy too!  Book the best room available as their best rooms are much better than their standard rooms for only a few baht more.  But even if all their best rooms are booked, book whatever you can get.

Room lowdown: Three of the suites by the pool  (39, 40,41) have ceramic tile.  These are much better than 36, 37, and 38 suites by pool which have carpeting in my opinion.  Welkom Suite has tile and is by pool; VIP 1 and VIP 2 have carpeting but  VIP 1 has a great terrace with view of the garden while VIP 2 has a terrace but the view is not as nice.

Internet connection is not super speedy but it's airconditioned, only a baht aminute and friendly girls run the place.

Partyanimal,

I forgot to mention the service at the Welkome Inn (WI), you are right about the service at the patio bar and the internet café.   The guy who runs the place (I believe he is Belgian) was quite a character with a real dry sense of humor but he was also very accommodating.  The staff made you feel quite welcome especially the cute ladies bartenders at the outdoor bar.  The last week of my trip I had booked a room next door at the Sabai Inn.  Although I was staying next door I still had my daily couple of afternoon beers over at the WI patio.  If my memory serves me correctly they offer a pretty good limo package back to BKK airport, however I sometimes suffer from CRS (can’t remember shit) and there may be better deals around.

Happy hunting in September…

I agree with a lot the good thing on this Hotel.

But I don't like the Boss.

In Mai/June 2002 I had resevation for 18 days in room 38. After 8 days I come back at 11PM for using the toilet on the room. When I ask for my key the boss told my I had to leave the room next day. I don't said anything

(the time was short).

One hour later I had safe a new reservation on Sabai Lodge.

The normal staff never understand why I had to leave.

The room was emty for the rest of the time I was in town.

Best Regards

PNO

  • 3 weeks later...

You're right Wally; the limo/car they arranged for me was I think 1100 to the airport, forget if that included tolls.  But it seems to be cheaper to go from pattaya to Bangkok than the other way around.

But more importantly the limo was on time and they were able to communicate to the driver that I wanted a slow ride cause on my way down the Thai Air limo guy drove like a madman.

Second trip I was going to Nana area so I took the bus for 90 baht.

Just two weeks till I'm back at the Welkom Inn!

The internet speed is now very slow as it is gone!

Been replaced by a foot massage place. I guess they figured too many internet shops but not enough massage places. Actually it's bad news as there is really only one other internet shop in the immediate surrounding (soi 2 Sunnys) but it doesnt open until 10 and often closes early...

I know it's minor stuff but just pointing out the changes.

Not enough massage places haha!  My favorite in that area is Silom Sauna, it's only 200 baht for a two hour thai massage and I tip an additional 100.  I don't like a happy ending though; need to save my stregnth till later.

As you exit welkom Inn on Soi 2 is Sunny's toward the beach or toward 2nd road?

Sunny's is toward 2nd Rdl, on the left side.  It is between a tailor shop and a foot massage shop.  Sunny is also a travel agent, and can arrange hotels, transport to airport and BKK, can re-confirm plane ticket....you name it.  A large, laid back Indian guy.  If you are a member of the Pattaya City Expats Club he gives discounts.     Roy
