Is there some place in Pattaya where a blood pressure check can be done easily? Without having to go to a doctor.

Similar to the machines in many department stores in the US (and maybe other countries too).

If your concerned with your blood pressure. Consumer Reports did a article on monitors. Reasonably priced and accurate. I use the CVS model and it's accurate. My wife is a RN and has a professional BP monitor. Reading from both are very close.

This was a helpful post and I can't see a reason for it attracting a red vote.

Perhaps because it didn't address the OPs question and was a badly formatted cut and paste?

About ten years ago I had a fairly minor stroke, that is if you can call any stroke minor. My blood pressure had always been above the normal limits. Since then I take a blood pressure medication and monitor my blood pressure myself. I have a small cuff type automatic battery powered unit made by a company called Lumiscope. It wasn't that expensive and it gives me peace of mind. It is small enough to take with me on holidays. I consider it a good investment.

That, or spite.

I didn't give BigD a reddie, but I can understand why someone would. He didn't provide a link to the reviews, and if he did, all you would find is an invitation to subscribe to the magazine. Not very useful at all, IMHO.

Thanks to everyone's suggestions. I will check out the coin operated ones - sounds intriguing.

As for buying one, I would have had a few of them around if I really needed to monitor that carefully. Board members have no way of knowing this, of course, so thanks for your recommendations.

As an aside, I think Thailand has the opposite effect on me - blood pressure falls (I think) - and I want to confirm this before doing something about it. Meaning heading to a physician.

This may be due to the fact that I walk a lot here which, in addition to normal hot weather sweating, makes people lose a lot of salt. The diet may have something to do with it also. Whatever it is, at the moment it is not consequential enough for doctor visits, but certainly worth looking around for a public blood pressure machine.

And worth some discussion on the board, which seems to be turning a bit spicy, what with red lights and, hopefully, little green men too!

A lot more helpful than your threadfuck. :thumbup

I see it differently. Big D's reply may have been poorly pasted but it was an honest attempt to be helpful. It related to the OP's question. Therefore it was on topic. There was no outright abuse of others, no unfounded accusations Tom, or snide attempts to undermine or ridicule. I thought he was being unfairly treated and judged by someone more likely out of spite, than on content. I nullified his negative vote and voiced my opinion.

I didn't think your offering was as useful to the OP as Big D's and I've said so.

:thumbup

I'm aware that carrying on with this further would amount to a threadfuck but it would be one that you would have started.

Maybe someone thought otherwise - hence the negative vote, and nothing to do with spite or anything else. If someone asked where they could rent a motorbike in Pattaya, and I responded by pasting US consumer report motorbike ratings, my post, somewhat unsurprisingly, might attract a few negative votes.

Will a motor bike fit in a briefcase? Is it portable in that way?

An apples and oranges analogy...... but justify away.

Back to the thread.

Two years ago, from the Boots in central Festival, I bought very cheaply, a device to monitor and log my blood pressure. A yearly medical check-up at Bangkok Pattaya had, in the verbal feedback, indicated it was slightly raised. I saw 2 of the BP results on that day and they were almost perfect. I assumed 'white-coat syndrome' had raised the first one, which I didn't get to look at. So I bought the machine to monitor my BP at home over a two week period. It was well within normal on every occasion. So it's stuffed in a drawer somewhere.

However, if I had concerns and wanted to monitor my BP while I was away on holiday I would rather pack a device I had faith in. Or just buy one when I arrived. Rather that than rely on a coin operated machine that would not always be easily available and possibly inaccurate.

The OP is welcome to borrow mine for the duration of his stay if he PM's me.

You are too Tom if you find my posts harrowing.

The OP didn't ask for anything portable that fitted in a briefcase. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Consider if, for example, someone had asked where they could rent a mobility scooter in Pattaya and someone had posted a cut and paste of Best Buy Wheelchairs from Which?.

Rather than look for a public machine, I thought that having and carrying your own would be a better option. Apparently I'm not the only one with that thought.

No Gary.

.......Tom has shown from his interventions here that he thinks the OP needs it pointing out that Big D shamefully failed to post a link to where he'd gotten the reviews from. Masterfully he expands on this by saying..... 'if Big D had posted a link, all he would have found was a subscription to a consumer magazine', which Tom like a magician produces triumphantly for us.

You can surmise for yourself whether Tom's real purpose was to make Big D look bad? Or to be helpful in some way to the OP? Or, to display his own superior data retrieval skills. I know what I think.

Then he accuses me....... me of all people of threadfucking. It's true now I suppose, but trace it back dear reader.

He goes on to pour scorn on my suggestion of buying a portable blood pressure monitor because it doesn't meet his the strict parameters for the thread. Helpfully though, he puts us back on-track with analogies about motor-bikes and mobility scooters.

And here we are for any readers still left.....

I'm off for a little lay down......I'm feeling somewhat tense......Where's that bloody machine?
