Moving to pattaya as a single lady ? is it safe?

You might consider hiring a car and driver to take you to work. This could be a inexpensive way to go.

Do not do that and do not take any advice from the local village idiot who knows nothing about Pattaya.

Don't worry about it. It's likely not true in this case, and it doesn't matter to you one way or another anyway. It's not as if it costs you more even if it were true.   You would do best to ignore

When someone sends you to a business in Asia it's expected they will receive a 10% commission when you buy. I'm not talking about a small purchase at a 7-11. This the way business works in Asia and in

I was driven to and from work when working in Laem Chabang but the car and driver were supplied by the 'office'.

Possibly cheaper than letting me rent a car on expenses.

Never, some one has to pay for the car and the driver. If this lady can rent her own car, she will have the freedom to go out were and when she likes. Its no fun always having to wait for a driver who is either late because he is still pissed or he just went to sleep. Would you trust a Thai driver ??

Well we got quite a good guy who drove reasonably.

The car was shared by a few guys and to be honest I preferred someone else doing the driving, particularly in the morning.

He used to pick some guys up after they had been on the razz.

Pretty sure either someone in accounting or the Project manager were getting kickbacks for the supply of vehicles and cars, TIT! :D

It is a bit difficult getting through Chonburi and onto a main highway from the 'beach areas' of Chonburi city area isn't it?

I always seem to get tangled up in a market area.

Once you travel it every day, you find the quickest route. I've got a friend who drives it 6 days/week and he gets to/from in 45 minutes.

Laam Chabung is a straight shot West, but there's no beaches, just fishing huts along the coast and some restaurants.

If I were a novice driver in the LOS, I would seriously consider hiring a Thai driver. It would also help with learning Thai, cause you'll have plenty of time for chatting while getting driven around.

Of course they drive on the left here, so if you haven't done that before some practice is recommended.

My first experience of driving on the right in a busy city scared me to death and I parked up and walked some distance back to the flat.

Bang Saen that Local Yokel talks of is quite nice and has some hotels, and further along the coast, towards Ang Sila is too.

I'm just thinkin' out loud again, but Rayong city is also a decent place to live. There's a few places to rent right on the beach, like Kanary Bay.

There's also a Kanary Bay in Sriracha, directly West of Pluak Daang.

Bowin, about 20km West of Pluak Daang, now has a Tesco Lotus, so things may have improved around there since I was there.

How much does it cost if i hire a driver? By the way i will move on 28th april.

You can rent cars for about 1000 baht/day-2000, with a driver I would expect that to add 500 baht.

I would hope the company you are working for would help you arrange that, particularly for the first few weeks until you find your feet and then consider driving yourself.

You would need an International Driving Permit, although some renters will accept just your home licence... ......

i m not so experienced at driving... thats why i need a place away from traffic :)

Given your lack of experience driving and the fact that Thai drivers are very poor drivers. Rent a car and driver for a couple of months. When you see how scary driving in Thailand is. You'll thank me.

Outside Pattaya and Bangkok driving is really not that bad - I am sure you can do it - just bring an international license.

I guess - just to have peace of mind - it would be worth it to hire a driver for the first 2 -4 weeks so you can see how the conditions are - I think if you ask the company they can arrange it at a reasonable price also.

Yes I agree although I might add a couple more of the large cities to that list.

Although you have to take some regard of the heavy industrial traffic between the Industrial areas and the Port at Laem Chabang. Hwy 7 can be quite bad, the trucks have left it like a roller coaster.

OP I don't think finding a driver for a few weeks will be too hard.

Good luck with your new job.

Keep in mind they drive on the left (actually they drive right-left and centre but they're supposed to drive on the left) in Thailand.

What a coincidence, I saw a sign for that place as I drove down 331 on Sunday.

I hope everything works out OK for you.
