Apartment search - Best People to Ask

Recommended Posts

Hi, once I reach my hotel in Pattaya I'm going to start searching for an apartment. Low end room, no frills, 3k-4k per month (I have a good budget but enjoy living on the frugal side).

Who are the best people to ask? I am thinking of cab drivers but they have obvious conflicts of interest--maybe I'm being unfair. Or I could just walk into every older building I see though that could be time consuming.

I would ask the Bargirls.

That's a good idea, since a room costing 3-4k/month is the typical room cost for many bargirls. Such a room has no amenities whatsoever.

While I also dont like throwing money away, I would suggest you up the budget to about 7000 a month. In the side streets around the sou buakaow area you will find lots of places in this price range. you will have air con (you dont have to use it excessively). and better facilities. it is close to everything so you save time and transport costs and lots of local, places to eat.

I've been to a few Bargirls' rooms on the East side of Soi Bua Khao (close to the S-Bend heading North towards Pattaya Klang).

They were @ 3500/Month. Like MM says, very basic. Guesthouse size room with shower/toilet/sink (wetroom style). Double bed. Balcony for hanging clothes. That's about it. You could plug your own TV in and pay a couple hundred Baht/Month for a cable TV hookup. No idea how much for Water/Electricity. I think we bought a gas bottle and hob for cooking. I didn't stay there much. It was great when I did. Two Sisters in a sweaty room with just an electric fan. We were naked 99% of the time :thumbup

The bar girl places and those around Soi B. are not exactly the best choices you have. Since it is low season it should be possible to get some decent deals between Suk and 3rd road and in the Naklua area. The often advertized 5K apartments in Nirun Condo could be seen as a ceiling for that market. I'll be looking myself.

One thing to be kept in mind is that many replies, though not here it seems, on boards are suggesting higher prices for a simple reason: the posters rent out. So take walk and have a look around.

I just printed a map and it looks like the West side of Sukhumvit is where you want to be. What are some good upper and lower boundaries to keep in mind? My primary needs are public transport, relatively low cost, reliable internet.

Once you get out of Pattaya, ie cross over Sukhumvit, (East Side) forget about public transport.

If you insist, you might find a gang of motorcycle taxi guys grouping somewhere near where you live, or you have to keep a few phone numbers and they will come get you. Sadly that is where the cheaper rental accommodation is.

Internet is available, pretty much everywhere....I have 3 ISPs in my area.
