They made a bunch of changes in Aug 2014, when the Junta took over

No Happy Hour....not enforced

No "Freebies" (lets say you buy a bottle of JW Red and they give you 5 mixers free) ...not enforced

No alcohol sold to anyone under 20...not enforced in BKK

Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was....

Also you can't buy alcohol between the hours of 2 and 5 PM at a convenience store or supermarket. This is a brilliant strategy to curb excessive drinking, since alcoholics never buy a drink after 5PM or before 2.

Same as the old law...or very similar...keeps those pesky Russians sober.

Mom & Pop stores sell it during all business hours, but of course the price is higher (OMG maybe 20 Baht per liquor bottle)

beer prices are about the same as 7-11 or a Supermarket

This is actually one of the things I like about Thailand. There's still room for the little guy.

The government passes stupid laws that high-profile chains and international companies have to abide by to the letter, but small operators can ignore them, thereby gaining a competitive advantage over the mighty corporate giants.

Glad to hear it. I do my shopping at Big C Extra (the old "Gafoo") and they have a staff of six in the liquor section, who dust the whisky bottles and scribble things on clipboards for three hours while they wait to be allowed to sell.

According to the sign at Foodland you can no longer buy in bulk (10 litres or more).... other than that.... same old same old.

The new law is in force in all the places I have been to in Bangkok in the last month. Only just the other day I had to wait until 1700 before they'd sell me some beer in the 7 near our place. As someone has already said, the independent shops will still sell you alcohol at any time.

Actually this is true in Bangkok as they are much more strict up there. I remember trying to buy a beer in 7/11 after midnight some years ago and was turned down. So i went across the soi to the still open beer bar and bought 3 to go!
