Nice!

I feel guilty, though. I have a nice camera and lenses, but many times when I travel, I don't use it as much as I should. I think I should probably look for something smaller, that can fit in my pocket. Lately, I've just been using my phone.

When I was a kid I used to have a darkroom and 35mm cameras and lenses. I spent many hours taking and developing pictures. Today, it's all much easier and yet I'm still lazy about it all.

Thanks!

One day I'll stop hauling a camera bag around and just use a pocket version....will have the obvious weight and discretion advantages, but I'm still healthy enough to carry a body and two or three lenses on my travels,so that day is coming, but still in the future.

I'm attaching a couple of hundred photos from Pattaya, taken over the last three or four years and chosen at random. I've got thousands on my hard drive, and no-one but myself gets to see them,so going

what is a good point and shoot in your opinion?

I have been looking at a Sony RX100 iii but its only drawback, beside price, is a reduced telephoto capability but it is a much faster lens. I think it is 24mm to 70mm.

Great photos btw - a great eye.

I'm not the person to ask.....I've had a Canon 5D M2 and a 5D M3 for the last seven years, and use full-auto mode most of the time.

Previously I had a series of tiny Sony Cybershots and they did well for snapshots.

I have a RX100 Mk2,bought in New York three years ago,but haven't used it yet. It's very busy....the micro controls are hard to operate and I find the focus to be sluggish so it stays at home. With practise it must get easier to operate but I couldn't recommend it.

But here's something so special it must be the one if it works....the Light L16. Not yet in production but already sold out.

Expensive but should do everything then a bit more!

Thanks for the nice comment too!

A friend of mine has a Canon compact camera. I don't know the model but it will fit in his pants pocket quite easily. My friend is not a photographer but this little camera takes fantastic pictures. I tease him that even he cannot screw up his photos. All I know about that camera is that it is a point and shoot. Totally automatic. It is even pretty good in low light. I do know that he paid several hundred dollars for it so it is not a cheap camera.

The best point and shoot is the one that slips easily into your pocket and is always with you.

Don't get bogged down with the longest telephoto too much, your best pics will be you moving in closer to your subject.

If you are basically shooting auto and have no interest in finding out a little about perspective, composition, lighting etc, then a $200 compact will take the same pic as a $1000 compact.

Not trying to sound snooty about photography, but if you just take a snap of a scene, most cameras will have the same result, regardless of what features they have.

It is the person taking the pic who can improve the appeal of the pic (and that can be learned... go to a photography workshop).

I used to do some freelance work with my old SLR and took two years of photography in college before deciding a degree in CAD would help me support my family better. I am finding that some newer models of point and shoot can allow one to control depth of field as the lenses are very fast on some newer models. I am looking for something versatile and light. I do not expect DSLR quality photography. If I did I would bring my heavier camera and lenses.
