with regard to eva air,i have used them probably 30 times.would be a shame if that product was spoilt through greed.i think they are trying to compete with the middle eastern airlines.

you should think yourselves luck.ba are going to do 10 seats across on their triple 7.s and shit service to boot.

EVA air are going to be 10 abreast in economy in the future, as from 2017 when an aircraft (777) goes in for its 5 year "D" check, the seating configuration will be changed.

EVA have declined in recent years, I last year I had 2 really really crappy trips with them, but my most recent one in October was actually not that bad, but not a patch on Cathay who we use for our UK-HKG-MNL trips. I actually realised that I've been using EVA since the late 90's and only used Thai 3 times for my trips to los, most probably because despite everything else, EVA always remain price competitive.

I've decided though that my next trip , if ever, will be with Thai, purely for a change and also I thought I'd give their A380 a bash.

If youre going to book the 1230 flight from LHR then reserve a seat right up the back. You get quick and very hot meals and are more likely to get a row to yourself

Most of the front seats on Thai are block allocated to some of the big agencies.

The A30 is so bloody smooth though.

Korean Air 777s have been 3-4-3 in economy right along. It's not the height of luxury but not the worst seating I have had on long haul flights either. I'm 115kg, but don't have any problem fitting my butt between the arm rests. The person next to me probably doesn't enjoy sitting next to the guy who brought the double wide shoulders. At 6'2" (avoid foolish consistency) my greater concern is leg room and amazingly I can stretch out my legs and even cross my legs if I do it with care. Having felt that I had been on the rack after flying business class on a Delta 767 a couple of years ago, I know that one never can tell how things will turn out.

I have used both Eva and Thai for many years now.

I prefer Thai, for a couple of reasons. I prefer the departure times of Thai, I like the A380s too.

I went over in September with Thai,,,,,,,Night flight from Heathrow, on a 777............I had a seat spare next to me...which me and a quite cut e Thai girl.(well woman actually!) shared..Coming back from Bangkok (night....well early morning!) it was on an A380 and I had 3...yes 3!! seats to myself....had about 6 hours sleep on there.!!

The A380 is also quieter and smoother as has been pointed out.....

Only thing I dont like about both Thai and Eva? To get mileage accrual on their frequent flyer programmes is hard....I mean you only get say 25% of actual miles flown with the "cheaper" tickets.. I got 25% in September...and I will get 25% in January....

Im a bit of a "hypocrite" whereby I "prefer" the late evening flight ex Heathrow.....but I was so impressed with their A380 that I will be flying on the mod-day flight on January.............cos its using an A380!!

I fly economy all the time (only ever been "bumped" once into Business......that was ok Phillipines Airways many years ago from Gatwick!).

When Thai used to give 100% mileage on all their tickets......i also flew business 3 times....

I will say that in all the times Ive flown with Thai , only once or twice (well actually 4 thinking about it!?) only on 4 legs have I managed to get either a spare seat next to me once...and 3 times Ive had 3 seats to myself!

As for Eva? NEVER! had so much as even A single spare seat next to me!! Maybe Im unlucky?

Hi Marleyboy

I got lucky on a few trips with EVA by having a spare seat next to me, this time going outwards there was just myself and a younger guy along with an empty middle seat which always helps, I've hd it happen a few times, but then again I normally fly in low season so that might be something to do with it.

I also like the A380's. despite nearly croaking it on a malaysian A380 a few years ago, they're still a great Aircraft and I've almost made my mind up to fly out on the midday Thai flight next time on theirs. The only issue being that there's a large number of arrivals from Europe into swampy at that time of the morning (check out Flightradar 24 or I might put a screenshot up here later on) so it would probably pay to stump up the extra 800 or so baht for a fastrack.

I will be booking the fast-track for the January trip!

As you say, arrival time (for the mid-day flight from Heathrow) at Bangkok is manic!

I went with Thai in September (evening flight from Heathrow) and there was hardly any queues!! (mind you I walk VERY fast once I get off the plane!).

As you say though, early morning in Bangers...EVERY! time I arrive that time...there is a massive queue! So in my opinion. its worth the 800 baht for fast-track.............

Just hope I have a bit of space next to me in January!
