What does "cheeky cow" mean?

Recommended Posts

"I went for a pint with this one bird and she turned out to be a real cheeky cow."

I'm assuming "cheeky cow" is a British slang.  I did a quick Google search, but I couldn't find a clear definition as to what it means.

Could one of our esteem Brits can give me a translation as to what "cheeky cow" means in the context of the above first sentence, i.e., is it a compliment or an insult?

Thanks!

Thanks!  I thought "cheeky cow" was a term of endearment.    It could have been a problem if I had used it with the wrong (or right) woman.

It isnt an Insult at all.

Its just a slightly sarcastic form of rebuke.

'ooh you cheeky cow' or

'oh you cheeky bugger'

In nz it's a mild form of rebuke more often used by women of older generations such as your mother or your grandmother might have used. It's more often used in a joking, matey sort of a way when old friends make jibes at each other and the response might be 'oh you cheeky cow'. Sometimes it can be used it a bit more seriously if something said by a stranger is disliked.

Had an amusing experience talking with English friends in the company of an American, I was surprised at the number of phrases he queried, talk about 2 countries devided by a common language. He queried pissed, piss head, bloke, fag, fanny & several others. BTW the common English phrase "Cheeky monkey" is not well received by TGs as I found out at the cost of a wasted BF.
