I am wondering how you guys rate the hotels in general for honesty. I am wanting to take my laptop with me this time as well as my digital camera. These obviously don't fit into a "Room Safe" or safety box so it's down to the integrity of the maids and cleaners I guess.

Does anyony "Know" of any hotels I should stay away from as I have not booked yet although I arrive at BKK on 15t April and then straight to Pattaya.

Wouls really appreciate any "Scary" hotel info...

Thanks...

jack.

Jack, why don't you just lock your valuable in your suitcase? My checked luggage is a hardside suitcase with a key lock as well as a combination lock. I have never had a problem in nearly 11 years of coming to Thailand. Roy

A laptop lock costs US$20. What's the problem? You could also get a pac-safe that you can lock to the pipes in the bathroom or something.

BTW, I've had safes that could easily accommidate my laptop. The standard electronic lock ones typically can.

Some of the hotels have rather large security boxes behind the front desk. Although I don't have a laptop, the security box I was given on my last trip looked large enough to hold a small laptop. I also noticed that this hotel had 2 larger sized security type boxes than the one that I was using.

Jack,

I tend to keep the maids sweet by giving them 100 baht now and again when cleaning my room! try having a little laugh with them! even though most of them tend to speak no English or little! just show them a little respect! and you should have mai pen rai (no problem) I too have a digital camera aswell as a CD player and yet to have any problems!

Jai yen yen!

Maids seem to be totally honest.......its more than there job's worth as not only would they be instantly dismissed, but would be unemployable elsewhere.

Re locking suitcases for international travel...if your check in luggage is chosen for random customs inspection whilst not in your posession...your locks WILL be broken...forcefully if necessary...with no compensation for damage being claimable. You will find your case sealed with a plastic tag & a note inside stating what has happened.

If you don't want your locks breaking...don't lock it!

Especially likely to happen in the Western hemisphere.

Re safe boxes behind reception.....within the last few months, one hotel, (sorry, cannot remember name) had them all meticulously emptied while the night security officer slept. I don't expect this was a 2000 bht/night gaff though!

Hi guys

I have stayed at Recidence Garden 7-8 times, and always left video-camera, digital-camera, md-player, dvd-player etc...... in the room. Usually there are some thousend bath too... I have never had any problem there.

Like Stiffler says - talk to your cleaning staff - If they know you its less likely that they will take anything - and most Thais are totally honest - just like us...... :D

Chock dee

My credit card was cloned and 15KUSD was charged. I didn't have to pay. I stayed at the Flipper Lodge on soi 8 and I used this card only there. :(

I took my laptop and digital camera on my last trip, when i left the room i did not leave them open or lying around and locked them in my suitcase, if i had a girl for the first time i did not get them out while they were in the room, common sense i think.

Most Hotels ive stayed in are around the 800- 1000 baht a night range and seem to have quite good security, some of the cheaper hotels or guest houses may not be so security minded.

I never asked but both the Flipper on soi 8 and Dynasty inn soi 13 look like they have some large security box,s, maybe Email a few hotels and ask before booking if its a big worry for you.

As stated by OJ, I also stay at RG, and leave my digital cam, money and a $2000 watch in the room out in the open all the time...never had a problem. The staff here is excellent! Peace.
