yes you can buy extra in Paris but you/ll have to pay the higher rate in the duty free shop.....ie the cigs will be about 22 pound a carton.............just take a chance and buy them in Bangkok at 7 pound a carton its more exciting that way ........good luck :P

jack,

Got to disagree with thaiflyer. You will only be subject to EU rules if you pass through immigration at CDG. If you are ticketed through and merely in transit at CDG the non-EU (1 litre, 200 fags) rules apply.

I travel to the UK 1or 2 times a year, customs at Heathrow looks almost non existant in recent times, i think all the money goes on security these days and as arriving baggage has been checked when loading and the sniffer dogs have checked for evidence of drugs, its not a high prioraty, even if customs are there checking and pull you aside as long as your case is not stuffed with booze and fags, you will probebly be let go with a warning at worst.

cheers

hi all i think that the allowances that you are talking about are duty paid puchases within the EEC ie purchased in a store not duty free shop, there is still a limit on duty free even if bought in EEC

Thanks for the info guys.

When I arrived back in manchester last november they were stopping just about everyone. two fellow travelers had all their cigs taken except 1 carton each. They could have kept them by paying the tax @ £25 per carton.

They each had about 2000..................

What a croc huh.

This info is going to be about 5 years old as I have not done any euro travelling in that time. I used to live in Folkstone on the South Coast and for an afternoons entertainment used to take the jet foil across to France. The drill was to purchase your full duty free allowance at Folkstone, carry the spirits onboard the cases of beer would be trucked onto the car deck. Walk ashore in France and go through the french duty free and purchase the full allowance again, again the beer would be loaded abourd for you. Go back aboard for the return trip and collected your beer at Folkstone.

EEC rules allows you to purchase your full duty free allowance at every Border crossing or port and take it all back to your home EEC country.

The van loads of booz seen coming through the South Coast ports is bought at the lower than UK VAT tariffs of France, Holland etc. These purchases are not for resale hence the 'wedding party' excuse. The UK customs are onto this and will ask date of the wedding, guest list etc to be produced, the van and load can be impounded waiting for the evidence to be provided. There will be a pound fee charged for the time the van is there. The local police also take an interest in overloaded vehicles, coaches being a favorite there are weigh stations on both Motorways leading from the ports.

I did the run for my daughters wedding and had no trouble at all, I carried paperwork to cover the purchases, orders to caterers, marquee suppliers etc., these were not needed as a drinking pal customs officer was on duty when I came through and knew all about the wedding plans.

I hope this usefull to you, regards UKP.
