Ben i got 5 from the white barrow in the big mall in the middle of pattaya (mikes i think, near the KFC, Burger king and Mcdonalds)

Barter like hell over the course of a few days with them though, and let him know your buying in "bulk" as prices start at silly high, i eventully got him down to 9 pound a piece... also these are wind up/arm movement powered... buy them the first week of your holiday to make sure they work... one of them turned out to be a dud a few days after getting home.

Worth buying a few more than requested to sell on when you get home.... the blue faced ones are very nice.....

Also get some OAKLEY shade fakes, i made a fourtune on selling them when i got home... bought them for 150 bhat a piece, sold them between 10 and 20 pounds when i got home... I have a list of 15 people wanting them when i return in a few weeks....

the automatic ones vary in quality, from piss poor to very good.

i have one from patpong night market, i got it 3 years ago, and its still going strong, wind it up and it will go for 3/4 days on the dressing table, wear it and it never loses a second.

i payed about 30 quid.

i also bougt one for a fiver in pattaya, got it home and unscrewed the winder, and that was the end of that!

Ben,

You can buy them all over the place but you get what you pay for.

Copies (not just watches) come in various grades largely dependant on where they are made (Thailand, China/HK, Taiwan or Japan).

For the better quality stuff in Pattaya try St Louis or Decar, both on 2nd Road - they both look like bag/shoe shops but go in and ask to see the watches. In Bangkok try Burapa Watch on the 3rd Floor of MBK. You can expect to pay 1,500 Baht upwards at these shops. If you are shopping at these places make sure you know what you are looking for - there is a host of sites giving advice/showing pics although they like to refer to their products as replicas rather than copies.

If you want any other info or directions PM me.

Regards and happy shopping,

Tom

As Tom said, Barupa watches in MBK plaza, Bangkok are very good, not the cheapest but decent quality.

I bought a Brietling, told them I was working in BKK for 3 months and they give you a 3 month guarantee.

I think I paid about 2,000, as Tom says you get what you pay for.

By the way the Brietling is still going although only 2 months at the moment.

The quality of the Rolexes vary considerably. I got mine off Patpong market, cost about £30 but is fully automatic, has good weight and more importantly ,still going strong 6 months on.

I got my Mrs a lesser quality(shh!) blue face Rolex off one of the stalls on Suk Rd. The vendor wanted 900bht. I said I'd give him 500 and he just blanked me.

I ended up walking away but he called me back and I paid 600thb. £8.50 to keep the wife happy is a bagain IMHO.

Cheers.

Ste.

I've bought a few Rolex watches - all from the stalls on Beach Road or along Second Road. The battery has failed in 2 of them but I was told last time I was in Pattaya that I could get replacement batteries in one of the jeweller's shops in Walking Street. Most of them cost me 400 baht though the one I'm wearing just now was slightly dearer at 450 baht. I've had it for almost 3 years now and it keeps bloody good time - better, in fact, than the real thing as a friend who has one admits.

I now prefer the watches that have a darker face as it is easier to read them than those with "gold" faces but that's just my preference.

Of course, the "gold" rubs off after a while but hey .......... what can you expect for £6? :banghead

Hi,

Got a rolex copy from a street seller in Pataya,he had just sold one to a German tourist for 2000Bath,the tourist was happy becourse the dealer adjusted the strap, after bartering for ten mins. got the same type of watch for 400Bath, this was a automatic, not a battery one. This was last Aug. and it is still going now but looses about a minute a week. You get what you pay for.

If you go up North Pattaya Road and just before Sukhumvit Road, on the right I think the road number is 18, there is a large store, called Lukdod Stores that sells all this stuff that the tourists want at a good price.

Cheers Doug.

Can't wait to be out there again :banghead 2guns not long to go.

Pat,

I'll look up Mr Wong next week.

To find St Louis - from the lights at South Pattaya Road, head north. It is the second last shop about 10 metres before the original Mike Department Store on the left-hand side, next door to a pharmacy.

For Decar, continue along 2nd Road and it is the second to last shop before you hit the new shops just prior to Royal Garden.Centre.

My Cholex (chinese Rolex) works fine. It is an automtatic, you have to keep wearing it to keep it wound up. Cost $25 and I got a discount for paying in US$

There is one thing, copies can be confiscated by most customs including UK, USA and Singapore if the see you wearing it or find it in your luggage.

I was in Pattaya last week, and looked for fake Rolexs on the stalls in Si Buakhow market. There were none to be seen and I was told that there had been a crack-down on fake merchandise within Thailand.

Later on the Beach I was approached by a watch vendor who sold me a his and hers Rolex set, including spare batteries for 900 baht. He started at 1500 for the two but would not budge below 900. I then purchased a fake Omega for 500.

Whilst we negotiated his head was going round like radar, keeping an eye open for the police.

In transit at Dubai airport I saw real Rolex watches of the same design as my fakes.

That was 3 weeks ago and the watches are still keeping good time. Only time will tell !.
