Have been to Pattaya many times over the last three years. I will be there at the end of June for just under a month. I would like to check out one of the nearby islands. I would appreciate some inputs from any of you guys that have been to them. Thanx, -Squid.

Hmm...depends which islands you're talking about?

There's some VERY near islands like: Koh Larn, Koh Sak

Then there's the Far Islands like: Koh Rin, Koh Man Wichai

Then there's the Islands that are near to Pattaya on a global scale (but kinda far) like: Koh Samet, Koh Chang

What did you plan on doing? Koh Larn & Koh Sak are fine for being lazy and chillin on a nice beach. If you wanna dive or snorkel I recommend the Far Islands.

If you want a full-on tropical getaway i.e. bungalows, coconuts..all dat crap, u should check out Samet or Chang (i hear a lot of ppl heading to Chang thesedays, but it will be low-season)...Samet is very beautiful

If you wouldn't like to venture too far from Pattaya, and would like the services of more than just a crappy boat, a new one just hit the water. I highly recommend it;

it's called the CU.

best bet is Koh Samui. Not too far away. The close by islands (Koh larn) are day trippers. And there are plenty of t.g.s if you dont have your own. :D later doorman

I spent a very enjoyable day on Koh Larn with a girl. I paid 150 each at a desk where the old pier meets Beach Road. They took us on a mini bus to the New Pier where we boarded the ferry to one of the Beachs on Koh Larn. The 150 did not include lunch, but I was persuaded to go that way as I was told that the 20 baht ferry does not take you to a beach - only to the village. I dont know if this is true or not, but we are only talking "money small".

The boat took us to an excellent Beach, where chairs and sun shades were free, although I was ripped off to the extent of 100 baht for hiring a rubber tyre, for my girl who was nervous about going into the deeper water, and I wanted to frolic a bit with her away from the beach.

You can get a "lunch inclusive" ticket, but we just bought some food from the beach vendors, in the same way as if we were on Pattaya Beach.

We were given 3 alternative return times, if I recall 3.00 pm 4.00 pm and 5.00pm. The sea was a little rough going back and I could see several of the passengers looking a little white, including my girl.

All in all a rather excellent little trip away from the hustle and bustle of Pty.

Dave,

Its true that the 20 baht ferry lands at the village, however there are motorbike taxis and baht buses waiting upon your arrival to take you to the beach of your choice.

The regular ferry is 20B each way. when you get to the village taxis will take you to Tawaen Beach that is where the 150B boat lands they do this for 20B. So that is 80B total round trip to the beach from Pattaya, but it cost about 30B to get to Bali Hai pier from the old pier location. Now were talking 110B, a 40B difference. Alot for some who live here a long time. :unsure:
