To anyone out there,

I have just started playing (about 4 months into it) Still learning the swing and still playing only with my irons (if you can call it playing :D )

I am in Pty at the end of July and wondered

1 - Whether its worth lumping my clubs half way across the world

2 - Whether anyone is out there that I can play with (and I mean GOLF)

3 - Is the weather OK to try and play at this time

Any advice would be welcome

Just carrying on from Hub

1 - Whether it’s worth lumping my clubs half way across the world

I find it all depends how often you are planning to play I think if more than 3 rounds it is worth taking your own clubs. (you did not say how long your trip was)?

Clubs are easily hired at the courses and some bars, but I would at least take your own golf shoes.

2 - Whether anyone is out there that I can play with (and I mean GOLF)

Sorry not there myself but usually there are plenty of guys around looking for a game, if not go to one of the societies that are around.

But do get at least one round in as the golf is great fun and has to be experieced.

3 - Is the weather OK to try and play at this time.

In the lap of the gods with the rain, but normally you should get some fine days or part days to play. The courses are less busy in the low season.

Cheers

Thanks both.

After todays game I think I will stick with rented clubs as I don't think it will make a big difference (and it saves me the hassle of lugging them around)

I saw a few bars last time out that organise trips and hire clubs so I think thats the best way to go.

Thanks again for the advice.

Stoace, now that is a really tough question for me also.

My first trip, I brought my clubs and played quite a few rounds.

On my second trip, decided to rent the clubs and only played one round. Kinda leaning towards bringing them this year hoping it will force me to get me lazy arse outta bed and on the course. Good Luck, SB

From what little I have seen, you would do fine bringing your 5 iron and a putter. My instructor told me that when I learn to use the 5 iron I can go on from there. I still don't have it mastered.

If you want to play good golf bring your clubs. First of all you are comfortable with them. Second of all I have gotten some really shitty rental clubs in Thailand and will never rent there again.

just bring a half set if you are new chances are you dont use driver 3 or 4 iron.maybe take 5 iron 7 iron 9 pw sw and putter and a 7 wood this is all i use when i play at home with a light carry bag.if you decide to take clubs ring your airline let them know you are bringing sticks.other wise they might count them in with your 20 kg baggage allowance limit.good luck
