Hi Guy's

Visiting Pattaya in November with a couple of mates spending most of the time in Pattaya but towards the end want to get down to Phuket - Phi PHi and back to Bangkok.

Don't want to go to the hassle of going back to Bangkok to get to Phuket so wandered about flying from Utapao, would be grateful to hear any details and costing etc.

Also how do you get to Phi Phi from Phuket ?

Would be grateful for any website for bookings, costing etc.

Many thanks

Pat

I can only help with Utapao as I flew Bangkok Air to Koh Samui in Jan. 04'. Nice organized(by Thai standards) little air-conditioned(cold) airport with a snack bar w/alcohol and a trinket(tourist junk) shop. I forgot what the taxi fare was but remember it as not being too bad. 600Bt sticks in my mind but I could be wrong. I saw people being dropped off in Baht Buses so you might consider negotiating a deal in Pattaya if you don't mind the thought of speeding down the highway in the back of a pick-up truck. Not me! The way these people drive made me nervous enough in a regular car. I digress. Shuttle to the plane via open-air trolley type vehicles. Bangkok Airlines seems like a professional operation by any standards. Having flown 1/2 million miles on U.S. airlines I feel that BKK Air could teach them a few things. Go here to access their website:

http://www.bangkokair.com/

In Nov. you should pay around 4400Bt roundtrip(return) between Utapao and Phuket if you book soon through the easy to use website. If you want to leave from BKK and fly Air Asia you should pay less than half that. I don't think Air Asia ( http://www.airasia.com )will book a ticket now for Nov. flights though. I've never flown them but I've heard good things about them.

Can't help with the rest of your journey. Good luck.

Although you usually go to Phi Phi from Krabi or thereabouts, there were a few companies that actually left from the east coast of Phuket. Just ask around at your hotel. I'm sure they will be happy to hook you up. Might have to thake a speedboat instead of the ferry but they are usually better trips with more stops anyway. If you get a chance to look at the boats, try to go on a longer as opposed to a shorter boat. Otherwise the chop will kill you. BTW, the travel time is about the same.

Cheers

I took a flight to Phuket from Bangkok with Air Asia. Booking through Internet, you get a Code to print out, or write down (or memorise ...), with the Code and your Passport you get a "Boarding Pass" (Looks more like a 7-11 Payment slip though ...)

Price was 1300 Bt round trip.

And yes, Air Asia used real planes, with real Engines, Wheels, and Seats. No problem for the 75 Minute Flight.

(Bangkok Air would have been close to 5000 Bt through U-Tapao, ouch!)
