Roderick, You will defintely be living like a king on that sort of money. Spending that sort of money every month I believe you will end up going across to the other side sooner than you hope

Big Skip, I am looking to hire a car for 1 month in December and have started having a bit of a look around at whats available and the costs. At the moment it looks like I might go for Q Cars. Probably around 16000 baht for a month for a compact. But then if anyone replies with details of better deals then I will look at them also. This is a link to a website the has some of the car rentals firms in Pattaya on it. http://www.pattayaplaza.com/expat/cars.htm Cheers, Wayne

A lot of the supermarkets (Foodland, Friendship etc) have notice boards outside and they normally have houses for rent/sale on them. This is how we found the house that we finally bought.

Six month rule needed on Passports, how close can you go
thegrogmonster replied to starry's topic in Expat Issues
I have to apologise for the incorrect information I have given. I was led to believe the above statement was correct but have just gotten an email from the passport people this is their reply "Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you for your e-mail dated 01/09/2006. If you renew your Australian passport prior to it's expiry your Australian Passport will be valid for ten (10) years from the date of issue of the new passport" Sorry for the mis-information -
I could be wrong but I thought that it had been demolished to make way for another development.

Just a reminder that this is planned to happened tomorrow.

Six month rule needed on Passports, how close can you go
thegrogmonster replied to starry's topic in Expat Issues
I don't know what other countries are like but in Australia in you are re-applying for a new passport early then the expiry date will be 10 years from the expiry date of your existing password So in simple terms if your passport was to expire on April 28th 2007 and you were getting a replacement passport today, then it would be valid from August 31st 2006 until April 28th 2017. This being the case then there is no reason why you wouldn't get your new passport today. -

Just a reminder to let everyone know that from the 1st September, all Thai mobile numbers will have an extra digit added to the existing number. I would hate for anyone to not be able to contact their darling. This notice appeared in a local paper: Change to Thailand’s mobile telephone numbers becomes effective September 1 From the Thai National News Bureau Public Relations Department: Thailand will change from a 9-digit to 10-digit mobile telephone system on September 1. Setthaporn Khusripithak, a member of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) said the ch

what about the gold shop's
thegrogmonster replied to mickeylo's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
There are nearly the same amount of Gold shops as there are bars in Pattaya. So it is very hard to make a recommendation. If you are a rich man you could always ask a local girl to take you to her favourite shop. Personally I would just walk around and have look in various shops and get an idea of what the costs are. I think gold must be around 10000 baht for 1 baht of gold -

Tim Bar Beer Residence.
thegrogmonster replied to soi unwise's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I have just been reading 1 of the local Pattaya papers on-line and came across an article on Tim's new hotel which stated: The Residence is on the site of the former Tim beer bar which has been established for more than 30 years. Can someone tell me if Tim's go-go has been knocked down or what if anything has happened to it. Cheers. -
I have used a company called Sea Air Land (SAL) Tours for visa runs. They charge 2000 baht and go to Poi Pet. You leave at 6 in the morning in a bus and get back around 5pm. After you get your visa you have lunch at a restaurant just outside the Thai town at the border. This company is located in Soi Post Office. I could not fault this company.
