  1. So arrived in Udon Thani on Monday and got the new car and bike licences today. Monday: Medical certificates (200 baht, 100 baht each), 30 minutes Tuesday: Residence certificates (1000 bbaht, 500 baht each) 30 minutes Wednesday: Driver's licences (760 baht, car 505 baht and motor bike 255 baht) 90 minutes. This would have only taken 30 minutes as well but the licences referenced my old passport and not my new one. I didn't have my old passport or a photo of it so my mum had to go around to my house in Australia and take a photo of the old passport which they then accepted.
  2. See similar business hour signs a bit these days.
  3. Rules are quite similar so you will be OK. Make sure you take a few 100 baht notes to settle any on the spot fines you may get. Other than that enjoy the drive. I do Pattaya to Udon Than and return most trips by car and enjoy it.
  4. Great to have the Pattaya Beer Garden back open again. Over the years it has been one of the best places for an afternoon drinking session with freinds. Good music and food.
  5. Response from the travel agent we booked through for our cancelled March 2020 flight. Aunt Betty are part of the Flight Centre group and have been a pain in the arse to deal with. THAI AIRWAYS BEGINS TO RESUME REFUND APPLICATIONS In May 2020, Thai Airways refund application process was completely suspended, due to the company undergoing a business restructure. The business rehabilitation plan proposed to the Central Court of Bankruptcy in Thailand was approved in June 2021, including the proposal for the resumption of refund payments. Thai Airways plan is now proceeding under the g
  6. On other forums the latest software update stopped Tapatalk working and I imagine it is the same for this forum.
  7. Thanks for the report. I got a chuckle when you said the Impact Challenger is the world's largest column free hall yet they struggle to build a house without needing to put a column in the middle of the lounge room.
  8. I went to a local Remebrance day service this morning. Lest we forget.
  9. Last year we stayed a couple of nights over Songkran in Nature View hotel on Soi Buakhow. It was a quite nice hotel for a reasonable price. Only 5 minute walk to LK Metro.
  10. Have travelled to Udon Thani a couple of times on the overnight train and once to Surat Thani. For all these trips I started at Pattaya catching the afternoon train to Bangkok. This train is slow and takes about 4 hours but I enjoy train travel and like looking at the scenery. I work for the railways back home and have always enjoyed train travel. I try to get in at least one long distance trip a year. Been with my wife for 17 years now and on one of our earlier trips to the village outside Udon Thani we caught the overnight train from Bangkok. She kept on being asked at her village why sh
  11. My wife and myself have had the same DTAC pre-paid numbers for over 10 years now. The plan is phone calls cost 1 baht a minute and every topup extends the validity for 12 months. Both numbers are registered for online services and this allows us to add data plans from Australia before we leave home. My wife leaves for Thailand today so I put 1,000 baht credit on her phone from my Kasikorn bank account. I then added a 30 day 12G data plan to the phone for 799 baht.So she now has data for the month and 200 baht of credit left on the phone.
  12. It is a shame that the street is in such a poor state. I like having a Guinness in Maggie Mays and a few beers in Anzac bar. It is a nightmare riding a motorbike along this soi and we always park the car on 3rd road.
  13. Go for a swim at Jomtien beach.
  14. Another question I would like to ask is that my 5 year licence expired 18 months ago so will they renew the licence and give me another 5 years? I will have a non O visa.
  15. I am one of the sad people that enjoy train travel. I have done the overnight train from Bangkok to Udon Thani in the 2nd class sleeper a few years ago. Then last month we did the train from Bangkok to Surat Thani in a first class sleeper on our way to Koh Samui. To be honest I prefer the 2nd class sleeper as you can talk and mingle with the other passengers. Both times we took the afternoon train from Pattaya to Bangkok and then only an hour or so to wait for overnight trains. My wife has issues with catching trains as she says that Thais only think that poor people catch trains. After ca
  16. The Welcome Plaza should fit the price range. http://www.welcome.co.th/wplaza.htm
  17. 1000 baht during high season may be a bit tough for a hotel. Maybe a guesthouse around LK Metro
