  1. I am not a fan of long distance bus travel so here are another couple of options. I have checked on the Air Asia website and it would cost you about 2000 baht for a return to Bangkok to Udon Thani for travel in around 7 weeks time. http://www.airasia.com/site/en/home.jsp I am one of these sad people that prefer train travel and have caught the train from Pattaya to Bangkok and then the overnighter from Bangkok to Udon Thani. The same train continues to Nong Khai. The cost for a return ticket will cost about 1100 baht first sleeper and half that for a second class sleeper. We used t
  2. As I understand it you can only apply for the retirement visa once you are in Thailand. In your own country you can apply for a 1 year non-immigrant O visa. This visa will let you stay in Thailand for a year but you still have to exit the country every 90 days. Once you get into Thailand you can open a bank account and deposit 800,000 baht into it. Once it has been in there for 3 months you can apply for a 1 year retirement visa. This lets you stay in Thailand without having to leave the country every 90 days. I think that you have to report to an immigration office every 90 days thoug
  3. Our nephew has been going to Best school for the last 7 or 8 years and from all reports it is a fine school. PM me if you like and I can give you the details of my brother-in-law who has owned a bar in Pattaya for 18 years and he could you tell you all about this school.
  4. There is one place in Soi LK Metro that I have never heard any comments on any board. Travellers Rest Our friends actually own the building and originally fitted the 16 rooms out and it was called PV Apartments. At the time they opened the soi was just kicking off and Lolitta's had just opened also. We had 3 friends who were staying there for a couple of months and their rooms were neat and tidy and a fair size. The rooms were rented out for a good price. Our friends who own the building were offered a good deal to lease the building out and took up the offer. It just surprises m
  5. That is what the doctors told me as well. There is no cure or medication just take it easy and over time you will get better. After about a week I was feeling better so I drove the wife from Pattaya to Bangkok and back. By the time I got back I was totally fucked and the next morning I got admitted to hospital
  6. I got Dengue fever in Thailand last Xmas and I have never been as sick before in my life. I ached all over, had a fever, headache and absolutely no strength or stamina. I went to the Bangkok Pattaya hospital for treatment and the first thing the want to do is admit you to hospital. I was one of these people who thought I was bullet proof and didn't have any traveler's insurance, so I told them to just give me some medication and let me go back to our house which is not far from the hospital. I was still no better after a week and a half and went back to the hospital again. I was due to fly
  7. I have had food from here a few times now and have always found it tasty. But being an Australian I would not have a clue if it is authentic or not.
  8. Try this link to Massic Travel's current prices http://www.pattayamail.com/massictravel/index.shtml

  10. I won't be able to renew my licence until about 3 -4weeks after my 1 year licence expires. Does anyone know if this will affect me getting the 5 year licence?
  11. Most of the shops like Friendship and Foodland have notice boards that have houses for sale and rent. This is how I bought our (wife's) house. No real estate agents to deal with, just make sure if you are going to sign a rental agreement that you have it translated into English
  12. They are doing all the earthworks at the moment. I think it will be just a normal road. Try looking at this link: http://www.pattayapeople.com/default.asp?F...;IdArticle=4908
  13. I was there in December and January and they have definitely started building it. It was also in the Pattaya Mail. I tried doing a search of back issues but their servers are down for maintenance.
  14. We have owned a house just off Soi Nern Plab Wan for the last 5 years. I enjoy living there when we come for holidays but the only thing I do hate is having to cross Sukhumvit Rd when we go into town. It gets busier every year. I just hope this new road doesn't make it any worse. Soi Nern Plab Wan has a bridge over the railway and hopefully the new road would also go under. If I have got this correct: The railway sold off surplus land to the council so that another road could be built to ease the traffic on Sukhumvit Rd. The new road runs parallel to the the railway line and is being built
  15. I don't think you have to make the reservation with the discount card, you just need to present it when booking in. If you are arriving in Pattaya during the day time then just call in to Pattaya Sports Club as you are coming in to town. There are located just off 3rd Road about 500 metres down from Pattaya North road. Remember to have a couple of passport photos.
  16. If you are planning to stay at the Diana Inn for any length of time then it pays to join the Pattaya Sports Club. This membership gives you 10% off your accommodation, drinks and meals at all the Diana Group places and you also receive good discounts at most the golf clubs. It costs 300 baht to register and then 400 baht per year http://www.pattayasports.org/
  17. With the amount of hotels I have stayed in for both work and holidays there is not one night that I have ever had any problems sleeping due to the hardness of the bed. Maybe ensuring that I always have a couple of drinks each night might have helped.
  18. Due to the amount of calls the missus makes on the phone the time limit for our sim was for well into next year. I buy an extra sim card just for my phone each year and this one always expires and I just buy another each trip. But our main number still had plenty of credit and time left and was last used in February so the number should never have been re-issued.
  19. We have had our mobile number and sim card since 2002 and use it all the time when we are in Thailand. It is valid until sometime next year. We have some friends who have gone to Phuket for holidays and we gave them our phone to take and use. So I tried ringing them and it got answered by a Thai fellow who lives in Rayong and he said that the number we have dialed is his number. We then got the missus brother in Pattaya to call our number and he got the same fellow. Has anyone else ever had their mobile number re-issued to someone else. We also had plenty of credit still on the pho
  20. Over the years I have had to get the sheets changed a couple of times and you just give a 100 baht to the maid on the quiet and the sheets get changed and thats the end of it.
  21. Sorry about that, I will have to take more notice next time
  22. Have a look at this other thread and it might give you some ideas http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/index.ph...82&hl=early
  23. I am hovering between 3 and 4 at the moment
  24. I will be flying Thai from Brisbane in December and got a good fare for the trip. It gives me the shit when airlines change their FF programs and you can no longer use your points to upgrade. I try and stick to 1 airline to build up points and then they change the rules. We were going to upgrade on the return flight as I have to go to work the night I return. From the Thai website: For other discounted Economy Class fares, excluding V/W which will no longer be eligible for upgrading, miles required remains unchanged for upgrading from Economy Class to Royal Silk Class.
  25. MFC, Try this link. http://www.pattayamail.com/massictravel/index.shtml I have been using Massic Travel for a few years now and have had no problems.
