  1. Most of the Nationwide cash cards on a new account will have a limit of £200 on them which means you are pretty safe doing the 10k baht per withdrawal per day. The Cash casrd as opposed to the debit and credit cards work on Cirrus instead of Visa/Mastercard. Cirrus whilst being a part of Mastercard does not levy the 1% fee from the UK. However the exchange rate is nominally worse and you will still get a 150 baht charge per withdrawal. GSB (Government savings bank) is outside of the group charging this fee so is free to use but not many about. Bank of Ayudhya is currently upgrad

  3. All i know is that my TGF always loved the White and Pink roses but was somewhat indifferent with the red ones.
  4. As for the Baht buses they are simple. Don't listen to Mango he obviously has some sort of grudge against someone from the area. For that matter if you aren't sure about what Bus to get just ask any of the locals or the Western punters which side of the road to get on and you'll be there in minutes at most. Btw i am jealous of your impending trip.
  5. Looks a decent place. Drink prices are not that bad considering although i hate the fact that soft drinks still cost more than a draft beer. Sorry ... Pet hate. good luck anyway
  6. Stayed at Mulphy's place (The Rockhouse which is excellent value btw) throughout October and not once did i ever have a problem getting anywhere. Travelling south towards Walking street i find very quick and relatively traffic free. 5 minutes at worst in my opinion. Short walk down from 2nd road and your on Walking street. Not much different to when i stayed at Residence garden as far as the amount of walking involved. Perhaps an extra hundred yards in total. As for getting home its a doddle. Walk up from Walking St to 2nd road. Jump onto ANY Baht bus heading towards Mikes Shopp
  7. Have to agree that if you can save £100 or £200 on your flight by dropping the IFE then well done. Lets face it when was the last time any of you paid £200 to rent a few movies? Same with the business class thing. While i am healthy enough to be able to fit into an economy chair i will forego the £400 it will cost me for the extra 5" leg room or whatever. That £200 or £400 quid can make a big difference to the length of my stay or at least the quality of the hotel i stay in whilst i am there.
  8. The others probably booked the flights in advance some time ago so got Etihads pre inflated price. Still a damned ripoff by Etihad in my opinion. I went with qatar this time around.
  9. Personally hate the idea of Mobiles going off every 2 minutes while i am TRYING to actually get my head down. I find it hard enough to sleep on a plane as it is.
  10. Am flying with them in October. got roughly a 2 hour change outbound and a horrible 8 hour inbound changeover. on the other hand I doubt i will ever be relaxed on the outbound leg as i am way to excited.
  11. Carry On up the Khyber, Carry On Don't Lose your Head, Carry On Cleo and Carry On Screaming. Probably the best Carry on Scene ever was the dining room in Khyber.

  13. Holy shit... If he were to move the capital there with all the bars, girls, fun etc i would be in total heaven. A mere hour on the Motorway. If only.
  14. Not just third world countries. I have bought people a portion of chips or a burger a few times in my own country for the same reason. Admittedly, one did tell me he was Vegetarian and asked me to get him a Vegeburger.
  15. Seems to be in freefall today after the rumour that the BOT will Revoke Capital Control Measures From Monday Cash Sterling = 61.13 USD : 50-100 31.03 Thats a hell of a big drop over the last 24 hours
  16. Not sure why i torture myself on these threads but 217 days of sheer unadulterated ennui
  17. Bah humbug. I still have 15 years till i reach the magical year i can sod off and instead of doubling up i have to pay the extra years myself. Wish i had reserved rights but i joined BT just after it went private so missed out. I knew about the 3 X Annual pension thing i just forgot to type the word pension hehe. Out of interest which branch of the Civil service do you work in?
  18. There is no lump sum from the pension in my calculations. The 100k is personal savings and selling up etc. I am also doing Isa's etc. Sounds like you are on the Classic pension with the 40/80. ( you cannot contribute the added 5 years unless you are already over 60 ) I am also guessing you have been paying over the normal in order to be able to hit the max at age 57. Either that or you started in the Service at age 12 hehe. As i have transferred years in from another Pension scheme and joined in 2005 i am actually on the Classic Plus which has the same rules as the new Premium sch
  19. Well its a good few years off yet but i hope to be able to officially retire at 60 with my full Civil service pension. I also hope to have about £100k + to allow me to stop work early (55-56) and move somewhere like Thailand. I reckon i can live quite comfortably on that until my Civil service pension kicks in 4-5 years later followed by my State pension at age 66. In order to do this i am paying extra into my Civil service pension so that i will have the maximum 40 years allowance. Its either that or keep working and then take the chance my health etc is up to me being able to enjoy my m
  20. Have to agree with the likes of Cheshire Tom. Just spent 25 nights in the RG and not once did i have any problems crossing the Road or getting into town. Yes there is Congestion at the so called Choke point but we are talking about a 100 yard stretch that takes maybe 1-2 minutes at its worst to get through. Baht buses constantly going by so that i doubt very much if i even had to wait as long as 2 minutes for one. Oh by the way, the Choke point only seems to happen during the Rush hour. The rest of the time its plain sailing all the way through.
  21. Voted for Beae. The Photo on this thread didnt do her fair justice. She looked better on Riffs site.
  22. Please tell me you will be doing Balti. Please.
