  1. What economical (not above 1800 baht and as much below as possible) hotel in bangkok that would provide in room or lobby wifi internet access (if outside my room I'd need a nearby electricity plug point) could someone suggested? Pool or restaurant is unnecessary. Proximity to Nana and BTS would be good. Might be going to BKK next month. Thanks
  2. Not the Dusit. A little before you get there - and not remotely in the same price category. If you walked - on the left going north - by its gate you'd see the entrance set back from the pavement/gate in a verdant driveway/car park.
  3. Apogies for not laying out my info more prominently (I wrote 'n pattaya' but not in the text itself). It's at, or very near, the north end of 2nd road. might even have been at the dolphin roundabout.
  4. About a year ago I looked into this hotel. Its entrance is on 2nd road but set well back; it has a big parking area and lots of trees in front. The building interior - lobby, restaurant, reception etc reminded me of a reasonably ok hotel in the style of the 1950s. There was a big outdoor pool in the back. It didn't have an in room safe, and moreover I was happy at my pricier soi hotel. But I'd like to find out their telephone no for future reference. Can anyone help?
  5. Hi I'm a near-novice regarding bkk - just one 3-day trip (I stayed at Woraburi, soi 4). I'm now planning another trip fo 10 days next month, maybe longer if I'm enjoying myself. I intend to divide my tourism between culture (royal palace etc) and women (nana etc). My budget wouldn't run to more than 15-1800 a night for the room. (breakfast/restaurant or a pool are of no interest to me.) Would anyone suggest a particular hotel that fits well - good transport connexion to destinations, guest-friendly? Is the nana area easy for bts transport to the tourist centre? In the meantime than
  6. thanks. so i coud have booked a single room - i put it like that because they just told me they are full for my period 3-7 january. any suggestions for an alternative that may not be as popular but still good value would be appreciated. i'm a newbie to the bkk scene (though not to pattaya).
  7. hi i just put this query on another older thread: want to try to book at the majestic for early january - realize they mayu be full. but my question is: do i need to book the double if i have the intention of 'entertaining' a female guest for a short- or long-time? hyde
  8. Was looking at a hotel booking site for the majestic suites which is generally recommended on this thread. There are choices and rates for single or double rooms. Do I need to go for the more expensive double to have the freedom of bringing in a girl - even short time? I suppose the answer to this will apply for any other booking in a comparable hotel on the sawadee hotel booking site.
  9. the sails (beside the ambassador) in na jomtien beach is a comparison of at least equal standard. prices there are about the same per sq metre. it's further out from pattaya. on the other hand it's adjacent to a luxury hotel tower (meridien), and should be ready sooner. it's about 80% sold now. it calls for 70% at completion. some people don't want to be smack in the middle of pattaya; others do. have a look there too.
  10. Thanks for that glynbuk. I hadn't got anywhere googling cdg, paris airport, et al. I myself am more familiar with the much more pleasant terminal2, which does have the shops. The chocs on the web page are a bit more the industrial type than I was looking for. Maybe I'll do a compromize and get some in town and more at the airport if I see what I want.
  11. Does anyone recall if there is a shop selling good quality chocolates (french, belgian, etc). I must take quite a bit with me and want to avoid buying them in town - before the weighing at check-in. But please I need to be sure. So only if someone has been through and knows for sure. Unfortunately I can't find the info on the web. A frenchman or resident on the forum?
  12. But....but...you mean after all that one doesn't get off paying tax on income from the isle of man account - even though one is resident, retired etc in Thailand???? So what is gained by putting the money in the off shore a/c....just the difference in uk/eu tax/witholding rates??? : If so, wouldn't I be better off keeping the excess funds in an a/c in Dubai for example?
  13. I decided to pretty much follow your own route, ie keep my nationwide a/c in england for day to day and atm use, & open an isle of man a/c where i can keep excess funds. But eventually I must surely get them to formally record my thai address - even if they accept a uk address (my brother's) for correspondence or whatever; otherwize how am I going to get my interest paid free of uk tax? And for that presumably I can submit the rental agreement & anything else with my name on that thai address. bhc
  14. Eneukman, Sinkorswim - appreciate your responses as nationwide customers with practical experience. Seems clear that I should keep my present nationwide account even after opening one with nationwide international. Unfortunately I'm not in England at present so can't a) pick up a form nor have them certify my passort copy. I suppose I must therefore print the form on their website and get a my bank here to certify it. But what about the proof of address? The woman on the phone mentioned the usual thing....utility bill. But in Thailand I won't have that. Sinorswim speaks of opening an
  15. I am in the process of moving to Thailand and would like to move my money at nationwide to a new account at nationwide international. Rang them up and they want me to download the account opening form, print, complete and send it with certified copies of passport and proof of address (utility bill etc). I’d like to to complete the process as soon as possible as n’wide international pays better interest and anyway I’m paying tax unnecessarily at the domestic bank. Perhaps someone here has done this switch while in Thailand? I will be grateful for any pointers to help me in this process, eg
