Saves putting them through university. And Tam worked at the I.R offices. Another transfer of jobs from London to Scotland. My kids were shocked that the shop in the old high street was known as "The Pakis" Broad Glaswegian Accents they had too. Oh yes, talking of Scotland, my son bought me a bottle of GLENMORANGIE Quinta Ruban for fathers day. Allow me to describe it. The finest golden barley and mineral rich water from the Glenmorangie distillery's own Tarlogie springs come together in the tallest whiskey stills in Scotland to produce a spirit of finesse and delicacy. Our pioneering research into into the effect of wood selection on whiskey is exemplified in The Quinta Ruban. Mature Glenmorangie, is transferred from the original bourbon casks into the finest ruby port cask from the Quintas wine estates from Portugal to ' finish '. Like sipping velvet, this voluptuosly smooth malt, imparts a balance of dark chocolate and mint flavours. ( I get a taste of Toffee-caramel myself ) with a luxurious hint of port.......... The Quinta Ruban is non chill filtered and bottled at a strength of 46%. This imparts added body, taste and texture to the spirit. Enjoy your Sang Thip Tom!

It 'ain't ad bad as you might think. When my family first went to Scotland to stay at our friends house in East Kilbride, Glasgow. They were worried about how their Brother In Law Tam, was going to react. He hated the English with a vengence. We had no idea how he felt about us. It was at our friends 40th birthday Barbie' in June, while I was sheltering from the rain with Tam in the garage, that he told me how the entire family was worried about us meeting him. After spending a weekend with us- playing footie with my nipper in the garden, me singing 'my song' at the family gathering, he mellowed. Fing is, as individuals we usually get along. Being English, is like having a terminal illness. You can worry about it, or just carry on as normal. I tend to do the latter. If you chose to dislike me for being English. I don't GAF

Just adopt the Millwall anthem " Nobody likes us -we don't care ! " Now the other Brit's toy has been broken by the Gerries, what are they going to play with now ? The World Cup has turned into Wimbledon. Us watching a bunch of foreigners win a game we invented. No local interest for us to cheer- or boo ! Oh I don't know tho' ( A. Murray ). Another sport in England run by the 'Old Boys' in Blazers, who would hate to have an English player that drops his H's or swears. No. Theyt want people who spell Fuck- Phuq, get out of the bath to have a Jimmy Riddle and take the rubbish to the bin in a briefcase. That's why we are behind in that game too. Well I.m off to the pub to ahve afew ales- at £1.49 a pint !

Kate Moss ???? That skinny, coke snorting tart, would fit right in the T.V's 'Shameless' You like Kate moss ?? If you think that is a good English person, I'd rather you hated us all !!! Ireland is the sidecar and the main land the motorbike- without us, you are going nowhere mate. Kate Moss ?????? FFS !

You are forgiven. I expected little else from a Gooner, who doesn't support a team with Englishmen in it. You lot lost your Englishness yonks ago. Give that young Szczesny a go in goal next season, or we'll have him back at G. Park.

Okay, nid's last word- unless provoked ! Sorry I will bore you with my point about no country ever winning the world cup, under a foreign manager. Our problem as far as I can see is an English problem. Previous WC winners, have been the top teams in the world, with ex player Managers from their own country to take charge. England has some who qualify for the post, but the Suits/ Blazers of the FA, seem to have a mentality that swerves from the obvious choices. Remember Brian Clough- the best manager England never had ? In fact their initials are the most apt in the world. What do they do for English Football ? Sweet F.A. ! Look at how Scotland performed under a German Manager ! They can be excused for not using an ex player though. It is not a good start mentally, for a team like England to be led by a foreigner. Yes teams like Australia, Japan and several African countries will have a European manager, but England ??? To the BBC's credit they did have Roy Hodgson and 'Arry there as pundits in S.Africa. Two prospective Gaffers for me. The choices a manager makes, can affect a teams mentality and performance. It happens at all levels. Andy Scott bought into Brentford's side an ex £9m Premiership striker Carl Cort. He was our front man for a few months and did bugger all. He was our Emil Heskey of the time. The rest of the team seemed miffed by his choice above the regular strikers. Their performance went down hill for about 6- 8 games. Carl got left out of the regular starting eleven and things picked up, we had better results without him. The sub's bench made Carl think again about his performance and his position. By the end of the season, he was taking extra training- lost half a stone and was a much better team player. It spread positively through the team as much as his arrival did negatively. The difference was, we had a whole season to adjust him and the rest of the team. England only had a few games of the World Cup. To have a Manager who is was not on an English footballers wavelength, did not bring out the sides full potential. It don't take much to tip the balance of a game of football, a goal, good play from one of your own side..... I think we had it all wrong from the off. Most English fans of the game, were mystified by his player and position choice. It's one thing to lose when playing the right people, in the right places, with the right attitude. Another to lose without it, while letting an Italian- or any other foreigner, make the decisions. I know- bad loser ! No. Just a disappointed one. Yes we may have lost anyway to Germany, but it would have been "Our way "

I got a txt from my mate, telling me that England want a hero's welcome, so they are landing at Glasgow airport ! That's not funny ! I'll spit in his beer tonight.

Win or lose, we are on the booze ! Today's goal was not nearly as close a call as Geoff Hursts. We had a spare one at the end anyway (4-2 ) The only bloke refusing goal line technology in football, was watching today. I hope he chokes on his free dinner. Er, we have beaten Germany since 1966. 1-5 in one game a young lad named Owen got a hat trick.

Joe has a point When Alf Ramsey was asked why he picked a team, that did not include the likes of Jimmy Greaves, he said he wanted team players, not gifted individuals. As for today's game, those who haven't played well in the previous games, kept the same form. Rooney should have been subbed, Joe Cole on earlier- not in the game- in the competition. You can pontificate for ever.... Luckily for fans like myself from the lower leagues, we are used to dissapointment in our football.

Win or lose today- England as a country is partying. Blue sky, 28c+ everyone is out in the garden, smell of barbies. Crates of beer and cider being carted out of Tesco, while a guy drives by with "Vindaloo" playing at full blast on his stereo..... houses, cars, pubs, shops, decked with the St. Georges flag. It is quite a day on our tiny island. you can feel the atmosphere- it's great ! Enger-land !- Enger-land ! " God save our Football team- long live our football team- god save our team. Send them victorious- happy and glorious, long to reign over us- long live our team ! "

I thought the younger Africans had blown it early in the second half. The US came out firing on all cylinders and it seemed a win for them was on the cards. Credit to both teams for their sportsmanship and commitment. Neither side were trying to rile an opponent to get them a red card. The Ref' seamed to understand the tension in all the players and made some allowance for it, but kept control. The early goal, made it interesting to watch- America pushing for their equalizer Ghana, very aware of the opponents ability to score. The saves by the African goalie, the breakaways by both side.... Two resulting in a goal for Ghana.... Bloody good game especially for Dempsey and the Fulham Defender, who have had a long hard season. As an aside, Mick J. and Bill C. were having a good time watching the game together. Mick is really a cricket man. I hope the American people enjoyed the tension of the W.C as much as everyone else. It has put a smile and frown on millions of faces and needs to be shared by millions more.

Go America tonight, we will have you lot chanting robust football anthems at the opposition supporters in no time. " Who are ya ? Who are ya ?...... " " Your support is Fuxhg shit ! Your support is fuxng shit !.... Sung to the tune of Men of Harlech. I know it all sounds a bit crude, but it is fun at the time ! American football ( soccer) will get the coverage it deserves and a lot of your supporters will get geography lessons at the same time. Rob' Green should get some sort of award from Mr Obama. It was him who gave you that first vital point. O.K Heskey should get one too, for not scoring a second goal. Both will be given a better reception on your side of the pond than ours.

This world cup is a re run of WWII The French surrendered early. The Americans joined in at the last moment and England have to face the Germans alone ! Oh and the Italians gave up with little resistance !

I 'aint putting any sport down. Show me where I have said American sport in inferior. I am just pointing out that some of you lot in America, are sooooo happy to knock the English at any given opportunity. Sporting or otherwise. You personally, in your bigotry. immaturity, arrogance and particularly ignorance want to separate the English from the other Brit's, so you can critisize the 'Brit''s in the World cup, while excluding the non English. For example- "Scots, welsh and Irish and Celts are not Brit's ! "- Such ignorance is absolutely staggering. What you are inferring is, your comments are not anti British, only anti English. Or am I the only one to see it that way ? In a previous post you said 'we' used to be so great- what happened ? Well we started to eat fast food and watch American TV- starting with I Love Lucy....... ! I have never said any American sport is inferior to those we play. What I have tried to point out- with little success, is that our sporting failings, have a much higher world profile than yours, because they have a much higher profile on the world stage- arena, call it what you like. Football, Rugby and Cricket are world wide- your sports are not. That is a fact you can't argue with - can you ? Yes I know Ice hockey is an international sport. I have handled the Canadian teams hockey sticks and huge trunks of equipment on many occasions at Heathrow. I can't remember however, receiving them from any more than two countries Russia or Scandinavia. By comparison, on one occasion we had the England Football team claiming their Baggage from Australia on Belt 2 and Scotland's team claiming theirs simultaniously from Halifax N.S on belt 1. I know Scotland isn't in Britain, but I thought it a coincidence at the time. I don't mind and am used to, Banter between the other Brit's about our sporting ups and downs. It is the same for all of us. Same sports, same wins, same losses. Same goes for the Aussies about rugby and cricket, our greatest compediters in the sport with the same chance to win or lose on the same pitch together. Io do get the hump when an American starts to crow about England's shortcomings in football. joe k has never done this, he just reacts to my posts as a slur on his sports. A slur that does not exist.

It's just a Scots attempt at diverting attention from the fact England have won ! The team we beat today scored twice against the US !

If England lose today, my greatest sympathy will be for the traveling fans, who have spent thousands to be there for our team. They played their part, so far the team hasn't. As I have said before, the large majority of England's away support, is drawn from lower clubs. These supporters never get to see the Premiership players live, unless their club has a lucky F.A cup draw against them. I have not watched a 'first division' side play for over 40 years. Tickets for England games at Wembley are a joke. In their season, they don't get to watch games at Old Trafford, Emirates, Stanford Bridge..... so when they have traveled thousands of miles at great personal cost, it grieves me that they have to witness and endure such a bad effort from the very players they support out of a patriotic desire for them to be world champions. How many will still be there when England depart should they lose today ? I hope the chaps get their act together. I don't mind getting beaten if we are plating our strongest team, players in the right positions, with the right formation on the field- so far that hasn't happened and it can be very frustrating to have an Italian making these crucial decisions. When Wayne Bridge refused to play for England after John Terry bonked his ex girlfriend, the joke flying around mobile phones was- " Can he go and bonk Emil Heskey's missus too ? " When Heskey kicked that ball straight at the U.S keeper, with only him to beat, it sort of illustrated what the joke was about.

I think he is holding fire about Liverpool, in the hope of the England job. He wants to check the security around his house up there too. If he gets the Liverpool job, Kenny Dalgleish will leave the club in protest. Perhaps he read your post, stating that no team has won the Premiership, under an English manager ! It has been won under a Scot- but they don't count as a Brit'

Joe how many countries compete to play in the Ice Hockey/ Baseball World Cup ? How many from African- Middle East- West Indies........ ? Indians are/ have been world champions at our Hockey, but not your one. They are not suited to football. There are very few players at professional level. Their disinterest to the England's W.C. performance is no surprise or concern to me. I suppose I am to American sports what India is to Football. All I am pointing out is, that our sporting short comings are on a world stage- America's aren't. Ask a cross section of the world population, how America did in their last soccer game, they could probably tell you they drew 2-2 and were robbed of a winner. Ask the same people how they did in their last Baseball- Football- Basketball- ( Its a net not a basket ) game...... I would not dream of stopping anyone from watching Baseball- I may enjoy it myself. I would enjoy playing it more though- once ! When someone says - you invented footbal and you can't beat other countries at your own game- I tend to bite !
-
Might as well. They are pretty close personality wise.- (I get the humour ) If Fulham come to Griffin Park next month, there will be a chant from the Terraces of " Hodgson for England ! " I will be the one to start it ! I suggested to a Millwall fan that England should adopt their chant " No one likes us- we don't care ! " His reply was; " After watching Englands first two games. Give me an away match at Griffin Park on a rainy Tuesday evening, any time ! "
-
Just when you think these posts can't get any stupider- along comes another one ! Yes you have all those minor sports. It is your major sports, on par with our Football, cricket, rugby that you don't compete in and risk getting beaten, at international level. I will repeat. There is a World Cup in all three English sports mentioned. We are willing to play against the best in the world at them. Because the competition is so great at World Cup level, to win it on the rare occasion, is a great accomplishment. It gives the whole country a lift. joeK, says i know nothing about the tournaments of your sports- so when did a foreign team, beat an American team at your football ? If it does happen in those sports, Baseball, Basketball, it gets such little world coverage nobody knows. When England play badly at Football- everybody knows ! It becomes open season on knocking the English. See any post here about our Recent rugby match against Australia ? No, because we won !
-
This post has to be on par with the midlife's- " Scots, Irish and Welsh are not Brit's ! " This is the point I am making. It is our national sport and other countries have beaten us at it. We can live with that. The fact others find our sport challenging and entertaining enough to put a team forward to represent their country in a World cup, is a great compliment. Your 'better athletes' play sports that no one else in the world will challenge them at, because they find them so bloody dull. When there is a Baseball- Basketball- American Football World Cup, that America wins every time. Then you can take the piss out of the English for not winning the Football World Cup every four years. You just hide behind your parochial sports, with no chance of coming in second. We will struggle in the real world of football. Even though we still have rugby, cycling, rowing, gymnastics, sailing.........
-
Well if Rooney wanted to play along side Heskey, to make him look good- it hasn't worked ! Bring on 'Arry. A London boy, with the Blitz Spirit about him, like Terry and Beck's..... A bit of Geordie like Shearer helps, he can be number two.
-
You know what ? Now I know why America doesn't play it's top sports on a world stage. It would give others the chance to take the piss out of them, like they do. Keep Baseball, Basketball, NHL within the silver seas- that way we won't look bad at our 'own game' to outsiders, should we lose. Not to mention the shock to the entire nation, with the realization that there may be people living elsewhere in the world, who can beat them at something. Hollywood will have to rewrite the final (losing) score. And we are English ! ! !
-
I wouldn't mind so much, but his job is to teach Thais English- not British ! Unless they are learning to speak with a Scots- Welsh, or Irish accent ? Any Thai who approaches you with " See you Jimmy ! " or " Top o' the mornin to ya !" will be Vic taught .
