  1. Hi 4 Wheels . What sort of Visa was that and how can I get more information about it !!
  2. Is it possible to sign up for a high speed internet connetion for ony two or three months, rather than for a much longer period
  3. On the question of probate, if a person's will is made and executed in Thailand _ and any tax is paid here - would your beneficiaries living outside Siam, such as in Oz or the US, still be liable to any inheritance tax in those countries?
  4. Hi Bull frog, Thanks for this information, I hadn't realized a spouse was so far down the pecking order - very interesting l
  5. What about looking at Laos. After all it has some beautiful women, it's cheap and it has a government with a benevolent if somewhat communistic outlook on life !
  6. Greetings Photoguy I looked at the 1 bedroom apartments, and thought they were very nice. I think the going rate being quoted by the reception desk was 45 ,000 Baht a month. If its not arude question, how much did you pay for your apartment at the pavilion ?
  7. Greetings I flew with Gulf Air from Kuwait to Bkk via Bahrain, last month. I think Gulf are a terrific airline, service was good and they managed to get me to bangers in one piece. The return flight was even better; I think they fly a Boeing 767 back to the Middle East, but there would have been 50 passengers at most in the economy section of the plane, so there was heaps of room to spread out and go to sleep As I say I had a great trip with them so I'd highly recommemd Gulf to you Roderick
  8. Greetings All Isn't Jetstar the budget version of Qantas ??? If so, I'd imagine the flying kangaroo will eventually pull out of most their international routes !!
  9. Greetings All I think I am about to offered a job in Laos - the money won't be great , but Vientiene will be a change of lifestyle for me. The only problem is that I haven't lived in this part of the world before so I'm not sure what to expect. The most important thing for me is to find whether there is a nightlife scene there or not. If it's a sleepy provincial type place, what do the expats do during their free time ?? Does anyone here have any experience about living in Lao Roderick

    Money

Greetings All Based on my current estimate, I will have approximately $7,500 USD a month to live on in Pattaya. Is this enough to live like a King in LOS. I know the Thais already have one monarch, but i'd like to live a regal lifestyle for a few years - before I wander across to the other side . Roderick
  11. AussieChic Do you mean let's see who will pick him up and drop him off while he's in Pattaya ??
  12. I think Royal Bahrain is t the airforoce of the country bearing the same name. I didn't realize that the Royal bahrain airforce carried fare paying passengers from Aus to LOS. Are you sure you didn't mean Royal Brunei instead ???
  13. Please, please tell me where I can get a solid 7% return on my money!!!!!
  14. Alan Sorry, but I don't follow your logic. If this guy had 250,000 pounds in the tink tank, I dont understand why the tax man would look to anyone else to pay up for hiim, deceased as he is . I'd have thought the'd just take any tax owed out of the princpal and repay anything leftover to the relatives?? Roderick
  15. Very amusing, everyone around me stopped work just to listen Roderick
  16. Greetings All Many posters on this board are looking to live somewhere that's comfortable but reasonably afforable, which makes very good sense. I am looking for something different though. I'd like to find an upmarket condominium, which is luxurious rather than comfortable and comes with all the mod cons. I'm prepared to pay the market rate for such a place, but I don't want to pay over the odds for it. I know that Fairview properties have a website with some nice units on display, but are there other real estate agents operating in this market, so that I can look at a range of prop
  17. What a great talent that guy had and was on TV. I was lucky to have watched many of his comedy series and thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. I read somewhere that prior to taking up comedy, Ronnie Barker was a bank manager who filled in time writing gags. Some of his skits were based on things he'd seen or heard from his banking days. Yes that was banking and not w...ing. roderick
  18. Owen I tend to agree with you. In the unfortunate event of a health crisis, its probably better to seek treatment locally and quickly rather than enduring a long trip to a far away medical facility. This raises the question of what medical insurance cover is available in Thailand to help defray the costs of hospital and other medical bills incurred in country. I will move to pattaya soon, and medical insurnace is one area that I really need help with. regards Rod
  19. Is Dudley still running the joint or has he handed it over to someone else ? Many years ago, the Penthouse had a debenture offering on the market for around $10,000 US a piece. Interest was to accumulate at 10% a year with the debenture holders able to claim discounts on room rates and other services. The moneys raised from this source were going to be used to renovate the hotel and upgrade the rooms In the end, I didn't invest but I'd be interested to hear about the experiences from those who went ahead and funded the renovation program.
  20. I flew with uzbek air a couple of years ago, from Bkk to Tashkent and then back to Bangkok. I thought they were just fine. The food was good, the hosties were attentive and the flight arrived on time.. Even in the inflight video was good. no, I had no complaints about that airline in fact I would rate them ahead of Qantas, at least the stewardesses were young and friendly.
  21. I agree with you Tiger. I like reading posts about retirement planning and how much it will cost to spend time in LOS. Tiger is very right on this point , I also discern bits of interesting information with each new post on this subject. When I piece all of this information together, I too will join the throng and head to Pattaya to spend time. In the meantime, I'm going off to Iraq to work out one more contract before I finally move to the Land of Smiles. James
  22. Hi Hilly I'd imagine that Ethiad is just like all the other airlines,if you can lug your luggage then u can carry it onto the aircraft with you. There are a few small exceptions though like box cutters, knives, forks etc ...... :frustrated
  23. Emil But what do you for companionship if the girls dont smile at you ??? :frustrated
