Yes, the world DOES pay attention to the UK - especially English - football supporters. We do. We have for quite a few decades. .

And (some) people will read this and it will affect their choice of resort and holiday place. The point is that you KNOW why you have your opinion, it's based on actually getting on a plane and making the trip. Almost all family holidays to Thailand by Europeans are NOT based on previous, multiple trips to Thailand. Brochures, articles, advertising and nice-looking Internet sites and forum posts all weigh in. YOU and almost all of us at some point made up our minds, "Yep, this time I'm going to Thailand". So does everyone. To say that you "would pick other places than Pattaya" is a bit silly, since you have actually picked Pattaya. .

RTFT. .

You couldn't figure that out? ALSO nothing. Nothing at all. What I can't figure is why anyone in Thailand thinks they are going to be singled out. They're not, just like I wrote in half a dozen of these threads. Pattaya WILL change, that's 100 per cent. What YOU do about that, it's up to you. No one is going to do anything to you or for you, either one? Why do people think they are targets? .

In the photos, seems beaches everywhere look about the same. .

Zico's Brazilian Bar-B-Q Beach Road Pattaya

You do this via email???? . -
There are lots of reasons for picking holiday places, and "what we can afford" is the major part -- NOT "the cheapest we can find". If you've got a bit of cash, you go further abroad, looking for the exotic. Or, some people save up for a few years to go for it. I doubt very much that many people look at brochures and adverts and so on, and then say "what's the cheapest?". They want to be different when possible, they want it to be "doable" in the sense of passports and airports and all. They're looking inside their budget, but not just "the cheapest". Thailand has a really good rep. Lots of people want to go. Like I say, I doubt whole families - meaning kids plural - would do it often or even twice. But couples or singles do, we know that. Some people get in a RUT, and you'll often see them sitting on Pattaya beaches, just like they did two and six and 12 years ago. .

Hmmm. There is this alternate universe where mrlasvegas and joekicker agree on stuff. And we're right in the middle of it. Beam me up Scottie, but not right now, I think I'm going to enjoy the next few dozen posts where the genteel, sensitive folks who hold their little finger out even when they drink beer try to stick it to the totally correct mrlasvegas. .

Master of the understatement, there. But yes, that's why I am skewing it, and probably will some more, too. .

Three languages. Thai on the top, Chinese in the centre, English on the bottom. It's the old Bangkok Metropolitan Bank, which was embezzled out of business -- really in 1997 although it hung on for a few years. Bunch of people doing 300 years or more in jail over that, dummies. Some good stuff in this thread for sure. .

The "good old days" ...

Only one of them. Responsible for the Thai Border Patrol Police, in fact. . -
You see at the top of the page of the website, there is a chance to "Select Location (and) Language". When I do that, and select "United Kingdom (slash) English), and look around for very family-friendly places, I see this. Click on this. Did you click? Well okay then - now you've seen one and we're on the same page, no pun intended. Just a guess, but I'd guess that like distant families elsewhere, British families probably would "do" Thailand once for the exotic thrill, and not many would return whether it was Pattaya or elsewhere. I know it wouldn't occur to me to do Europe more than one holiday. Packing up spouses and little ones for a huge long trip to a far-off country, that's usually once in a lifetime per country, I'd think - British or whatever. .
-
And yet they ARE sitting on Pattaya beaches. Do you mean maybe tomorrow they won't be? Or that they're not happy? Or what? I admit I have no way to know their precise state of mind, but they aren't cancelling - they are sitting there. Can't be TOO unhappy. They smile and all. I don't understand the denial. .

Those black people, always doing that. Right wac? .

The "good old days" ...
joekicker replied to CheshireTom's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Yes Unbelievable that I wrote "Saigon". A real brainfart. It is Bangkok, Lucy's Tiger Den, 1983, maybe 1984. I have edited the original post too. One of the people is an ex-Marine. (Yes he is; he's dead now.) Then don't have one. Up to you. . -
Bzzzzzzzt! You're not even reading the thread. The DEVELOPMENT of Pattaya is not a question of either/or. It's a question of expansion, just like business anywhere else in the world. You (white) people are NOT going to be kicked out. As always, what you do will be up to you. More people from more places will CONTINUE to come to Pattaya. There will be changes because of that. Some will like that, some won't, just like all the changes already made in Pattaya in the past, oh, 45 years. P.S. Are you really claiming that you are on track to spend 400,000 baht ($13,000-plus) in Thailand this year? .

Fair enough. You failed to mention, though, that the iPhones can't be plugged into a wall socket and therefore can't be fried by the wrong voltage. .

The "good old days" ...
joekicker replied to CheshireTom's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Last post is nothing to do with Pattaya. Pics from the top are Bangkok, Korat and somewhere else I don't know. Edited to correct "Bangkok" when I originally stupidly wrote "Saigon". . -
I'm neither promoting nor rejecting it, or arguing either way. I go there a lot with my family. That's me. I made a totally, completely, altogether, entirely different point, which is fact, not opinion, and that is that Thailand spends a lot of money marketing Pattaya as a family destination for people in the US, Australia and the UK. But seriously folks. I used "google.com" here, i.e. the US site. I searched for Pattaya images as you said. Do you see "what's up?" Looks pretty good to me -- a LOT better than it actually looks, in fact. But nothing there makes me go, "No way, honey, I forbid you and the kids to go". .
-
This is the designated site for people in the USA looking for authoritative information from the Tourism Authority of Thailand's official website at (www.tourismthailand.org). You get to choose where you are on the front page of the site, and you see info tailored for your location. You can do it for the UK and Australia, among others. I want to stipulate that I'm using the website as an easy example. There are millions of baht worth of magazines, brochures, books, films, podcasts, DVDs and much, much more promoting Pattaya as a family destination for people in the US - and also the UK and Australia. As it says in its introduction on Pattaya for the US family: .

How would I know what you saw? But I do know what *I* saw and see - Europeans with their bums on deck chairs (and sand) on Pattaya beaches. (squint) Are you saying I am lying? .

Jeebus. Yes, it's definitely me. Has to be me. Couldn't be anything or anyone else. It's definitely my posting that does this. If I didn't post, everything would be perfect in your life. Including doing quotes in Internet forum posts, the last little bump between you and your almost ended quest for perfection in your life. However. I didn't delete anything. Sure you do. Just like all the other times you took the time to write that you didn't have time. You keep writing this "I don't have the time" happy horsespit, and you keep taking the time to write it. Don't disrespect your readers THAT much, okay? What do you mean "we" kemosabby? I specifically said who the Europeans are. I specifically alluded to the small islands of far western Europe where you often are found. Yet only now do you have lots, and lots, and LOTS of time to kvetch about it. Oh, and it's my fault of course. Of course. But go ahead. Take out the Russians. Great. I will take out the Russians. No Russians in this: Europeans ARE happy to sit on the Pattaya beaches, and do so daily. I specifically defined European for this thread. You didn't have time to READ, only to rant and write. Because out of nowhere, for no apparent reason I can figure, you suddenly stated (correctly) that I'd never said how many European beaches I'd vacationed at. Do you want to know or not? Because *I* want to know what it has to do with the price of rice in China. There are SO many things I also didn't post in this thread. As for you, you have flat refused to post the current temperature in your far-west European hometown. Don't think I didn't notice your avoiding THAT vital fact. I guess I've visited a dozen Euro beaches, I don't know, most of them very un-memorable. I've vacationed, meaning I've stayed a few days in the summer at Nice and at Barcelona. Nice, I'd rather sit under the live pollution outlet at Pattaya and I'd pay to do it, maybe you have to be French or something. Barcelona beach is okay if you are poor and can't afford better like, oh, Nebraska or Austria. See what I mean about not reading? I never said Euros WOULD BE happy doing that. I said they ARE happy doing that and they HAVE BEEN happy doing that. There's no theory involved, no guesswork, no crystal balling. It already happened. .
-
You pointed it out all right, but you are quite wrong. Europeans ARE happy to sit on the Pattaya beach, and do so daily. I didn't forget. You didn't ask. Are you asking? I don't mind telling you. I'm curious why it matters. What matters is whether Europeans sit on Pattaya beaches. A classic. But yes, I definitely screwed up and you are right. There are very few European families on the deckchairs at Pattaya beach at midnight, or five hours either side of midnight. Well, maybe not Mr Sinbin. Maybe THIS is a classic. Yes. I definitely screwed up and you are right. No one is capable of understanding that when your choice is Omaha or Pattaya, even Pattaya BEACH looks really, really good. Probably even at 2am. Um. Well, yes, TAT is certainly doing that. Spending quite a lot of money on exactly that. Quite successfully, too. You're doing EXACTLY what the OP and numerous posters did, claiming that it's some sort of either/or - either they get white people OR they get Indians/Chinese. That's quite wrong, very wrong. Not to mention Pattaya's past. .
