Yeah, you're right. I once saw a few jerseys in a mall near my house, that was years ago. I took it as a sign the AFL was having jerseys made in Thailand, or looking into it. Rules isn't popular in Thailand at all, it's not on TV, it's not played. I'd be very surprised to find jerseys on sale -- as indeed I was surprised the one time I saw some. Certainly there is no big or regular supply of them. .

I'm not directly arguing, mostly because that's what I have done. But the fact is that ripping to MP3 loses a HUGE amount of the CD quality, and you never get it back on a reburn. Some people sensitive to quality can rip the whole CD intact, or rip to a lossless format like FLAC - much better advice. I totally agree in general that carrying CDs or anything digital including most books is crazy, unless you're a collector. Carrying movies is ludicrous. Books should go e-book and on a reader of some sort. It's goofy to be carrying all that stuff in 2011. It's heavy, it's costly and who cares that much unless you're a rare-book collector? Almost all clothes should be discarded. It is crazy to carry almost anything electric or electronic, it can and should be replaced. Frankly, I don't even understand shipping furniture - why? You carry a few things you like, a few things you NEED, and that's it. Why a container full? You are MOVING your life, so move, already. .

You're not wrong, but it's just a tad easier to manage your currency when it's a teensy weensy country that no one is really much interested in or tampers with -- and has a loaded gun in every home, heh. Singapore is another one. .

What makes you think the US will default? I see this all over the place, but the fact is the US will not default, no matter how the debt-limit talks come out. .

I think all you could get is a list of dishes. Searching the menus of Thai restaurants might be as useful, unless we have a chef or two on here. I'm not even sure what you're after, apart from such a list. For Thai food, I like panang, tom kha, khao men kai - simple stuff. For Isan, laab and nam toke nuea. Overall, because it's different everywhere, I love gai yang. Mango and sticky rice is the world's best dessert - thats a statement, not an opinion. But there are at least, AT LEAST 100 dishes I like quite a lot after those. Lao food, not so much, thanks. In a Lao setting, I'll fill my stomach, not love the meal. Most fish and other seafood sold worldwide in restaurants is farmed, yes. You have choices of course. You can search and find suppliers and restaurants that think like you about it. If you can't get non-farmed seafood in Pattaya, you're definitely not looking. But yes, it's a chore to do that. .

No but I read NotTheNation - it's uneven but has some good stuff. I just look in every so often. .

Hotel with elevator and hot tub
joekicker replied to BigDUSA's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Regionalisms, ain't they great? Way I learned the nouns as a tyke was bath was the room, and bath was what you took if you had a bathtub in the bath. A bathtub was where you took a bath in the bathroom if you wanted to avoid confusion. A tub could be several things -- but a tub in the bath was a bathtub. Mom also washed clothes in a tub but she usually washed in a washtub, to avoid confusion. And Friday and Saturday nights we got music out of the (upturned bass) tub, too. Later, I learnt that a Jacuzzi has to have jets, that's a given. And it's not a "hot tub" unless it's outside the main house area (could be a covered verandah, say, in cold places.) If it's a big tub in the living room, darned if I know -- a big tub I guess. Next on PattayaTalk - do you drink soda or pop -- or ...???? And then: Top of your cake - is it icing or frosting? . -
Question about riding scooters on beach

A pick-up would be safer and provide more stability. . -
REGISTERED is an instruction to STEAL ME. Registered mail has its place, but I don't think international mail with valuable documents is one of those places. .

My solution is just to have someone mail me the cards -- the Thai cards to the US when necessary, the US banks to Thailand when necessary. If you're going to live in Thailand, you should have a drop address in your home country anyway. There are lots of stories about credit cards being stolen from the mail, and I'm sure it happens, but I don't know anyone it has happened to. .

Question about riding scooters on beach
joekicker replied to short's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
So you would buy a helmet in the US, you would carry it to Pattaya and you would probably chicken out of riding in Pattaya. Why are you in this thread? . -
AND some banks in the US and other countries won't mail credit cards to Thailand, among other countries. It can get complicated. .

Question about riding scooters on beach
joekicker replied to short's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
And carry it to Thailand? For a bit of fun riding? . -
What is strictly correct then? Can you not say? I'd just point out, also, that the post you're answering said it was in effect as of 2006. So it seems you're not actually arguing with him, but you have more up to date info. I hope you're not referencing jacko's neat little aside, because yes, the pilot and crew have to be carrying a document to get on the aircraft, each one of them. Otherwise they don't get through security and they are unable to even get to the aircraft gate, you see. "Tickets" might not be the exact, precise right word and jacko raised a smile -- but then almost no one has a ticket as not described in the Warsaw convention (inside joke) for flying these days, eh? But yes, anyone boarding a commercial aircraft needs his/her own document or debarks before takeoff or is in the middle of a criminal stowaway case. That includes all crew, infants in arms, unaccompanied children, etc, etc. .

That's a suicide, barring any other evidence. You don't get brain-dead from a drink or meal spiked with pesticide. On top of which, it's quite a well-known suicide track in Thailand. .

No, it's definitely my error, BUT it's also very weird. I saw this request, and I answered it - but I don't see my answer. I assumed it must have been in the mammy's thread, but you're right, I'm wrong - sorry. My post got sent to Mars instead of the forum, somehow. Bummer, it was a serious reply. Anyhow. You should beat around the bush a bit with your teelak. How old are the kids, what do they like to do, do they play sports, do they like to wear dresses, who's their favourite team, are they real boys or sissies - and so on. Just make a conversation. One thing that's pretty universally popular, kids and adults, is a badminton set which is laughably cheap on the street. Get 4 racquets, an extra tin of birds. You can set it up anywhere, even easier than soccer. .

Question about riding scooters on beach
joekicker replied to short's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I saw a guy having fun riding a bike on the beach in Jomtien once, a few years ago. Everyone else called him what he was but not "fun-loving guy". Helmets are all over the place, give it half a day of shopping and you'll find one, probably. Bike shops, obviously first place to look. . -
Yes, the OP has posed this same question in two different places. I also asked him where he was going, and also asked him what he wanted to spend. My main suggestion was to ask his teelak what the kids might like, what they like, what they play with.... No answer, so the best we can do is give suggestions what kids want. You have to be REALLY careful with clothes there, Mr Frog. *Special* kinds of clothes they can show off is different from "just clothes". Show-off clothes good, another white shirt and pair of shorts bad. I suggested maybe a football kit, which would be special clothes -- IF the kid is into football, and if it's "his" team. That sort of thing, very good, I'd think. But we can't know as well as teelak. .
-
Oh, come ON, how to be a really unpopular uncle: Give clothes. School bag not bad, sweets kind of unimaginative. Sports stuff is good - balls, badminton sets, that kind of thing. Very cheap. Those cheap little electronic handheld game thingmys would be appreciated by boys - couple hundred baht. Not clothes. Yucko. .

Yes only a very few people are allowed to know about this new site. I'll probably get in trouble for even posting the link here. .

Airline tax holiday in effect. Act fast.
joekicker replied to bigdelta's topic in Airline Discussion
"Act fast" no kidding. Less than 24 hours later, from the Associated Press: Airlines are tossing consumers aside and grabbing the benefit of lower federal taxes on travel tickets. By Saturday night, nearly all the major U.S. airlines had raised fares to offset taxes that expired the night before. -
And Haye had a broken foot, and the North Korean women got hit by lightning. You lost, Judah. Stop whining like a little girl. I've seen the replay and frankly no one even believes it was a low blow. But man up and live with it. You lost the fight, period, and NOT with one punch -- you never had a chance. Very nice work by Khan, frankly. Definitely boosts his rep. .
