Absolutely right. As pointed out in the other thread on this hugely important topic, Klitschko has almost no opponents that can sell a fight, and Haye can. And did. .
-
So? You can't deny (and didn't try) that HBO rushes to showcase and carry Wlad's fights when it can. The Klitschko-Haye fight was on HBO, as were many previous Klitschko fights. HBO makes tonnes of money off Wlad. Of course HBO loves him, why wouldn't they? Heavyweights still get the viewers. HBO loves viewers. HBO loves anyone who brings viewers. There may be and probably are people that HBO currently loves MORE than Wlad such as Mayweather and Pacman. But HBO currently loves Wlad. So would I if Wlad were putting millions of viewers and profits in my pocket. HBO is a company. Of COURSE they love anyone that brings them money by the pickup-bed load. .
-
Well.... HBO didn't hesitate on this pretty predictable yawner, or at least one that I was sure was never going down as a top bout. And I'm sure they made money. They even showed it on their Spanish station. Wlad has been fighting on ESPN because that's the kind of fights Wlad has been fighting -- i.e. losers. Let's face it, European canvasbacks are not money-makers. Not Wlad's fault but no first-class promoter including HBO would touch yawner payday fights. HBO couldn't sell the Haye fight as a pay per view, but they leapt up and took it because Haye was at least a name that people knew. And EVERYBODY knows Wlad's name. .

Some epic. Both finals were an anti-climax this year. .

No better reason I can think of for keeping software. And again I appreciate the pointer, I'd never tried it. .

Family-friendly? The challenges facing Pattaya
joekicker replied to Gabor's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
testosterone-charged expatriate beer and go-go bar owners and others enamored with the bar-room sex side of Pattaya. Who the hell are they talking about? . -
Ditto thanks jacko. I'm currently in love with Freemake Video Converter, a really good converter, ripper and burner that ALSO has a brother, the Freemake Video Downloader, which fetches stuff from just about any site you can name. Format Factory looks a real treat for the ripping/converting part, thanks. LATER edit: Hmmmmm. Well, I'm less impressed with Format Factory than I was in the telling. 40MB is an awful lot of bloat for a program that only converts, doesn't even burn. In its defence, it will make .ISO images, and they are dead easy to burn. But that means you take up the whole DVD. I see there's an outstanding copyright/patent charge that could be trouble for the Format Factory folks. No biggie for me except the program could be put out of business. It's freeware anyhow, the developers could just walk away anyhow. Just saying. It DOES convert well, and a lot more than video - also pictures and audio. I did several conversions to try. GREAT advantage: You can mix up video, sound and photos and just dump them into FF and it will do the right thing. But I believe I'll stick with Freemake. The fact it doesn't do the burn part is the killer on an already way-too-huge Format Factory. .

Oh I think Klitschko would fill a hall in Las Vegas, HBO loves him and vice-versa. But neither of them could lick the postage stamps of almost any past champion you could name. Heavyweights have been almost horrible for quite a while, but these days they are completely horrible. No class, no colour, no charisma and ... um, what's that other thing, trying to remember, oh, yeah, no talent. .
-
Jamie, on this board, you can tell us what you think, you don't have to hold it in. I'd never seen Haye fight, but my impression was that this was a packaged person, created and nurtured and nursed along with the intention of one big payday. The main reason I'd never seen him fight was, who the heck did he fight? Joe Nobody, Jim Canvasback, selected opponents that could build a record. Of COURSE you can't do this unless you have SOME talent, but I always thought he was a shell, not a serious contender. I watched the whole fight Sunday and it sure didn't change my mind a bit, in fact it reinforced my opinion. .

In 1997, virtually every Bangkok newspaper reported that the value of the baht had fallen 120 per cent in day. .

Yes, that's interesting. I wouldn't say that November 2010 is outdated, not generally. But thanks for the update, it's good to know. It's still Handbrake, too. .
-
Well that is interesting. Microsoft themselves say they don't do it. I guess they've upgraded. .
-
Correction. Handbrake. It's here. As stated: Microsoft Moviemaker will not do MOV format. ,
-
They forgot the waltz music. That's the only way that one was going in the books, was as part of Dancing With the Stars. I'd never seen Haye before. He was very unimpressive, fighting a huge guy by taking a wide stance, no footwork at all and hands down. How was he expecting to win? I don't get it at all. Head bobbing doesn't win points, doesn't land punches, even Manny Steward was giving Klischko crap for trying to head-bob with him -- why do that, he said to his boy, you just get tired. So anybody know what Haye was up to? .
-
You didn't say what you did to make it that way. With absolutely no information whatsoever, I'd say you should go back to the original MOV and start again, but do it a different way. .
-
Sounds like you don't need an editor, you need a converter. Lots of those online, GIYF. Or download and try Pazera, a free program, to convert to AVI format. Then you can do whatever you want with the files, because AVI is very common. If you need an editor, hard to beat the free Microsoft Moviemaker, a really excellent program that handles AVI and lots of other formats but NOT MOV. But you can beat Moviemaker in some conditions. Lovely little program called Machete Lite, the free version, is a terrific editor. Recent review right here.

Bar closures this weekend and next?
joekicker replied to Tom Kagai's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Don't be such a dick. Do you think foreigners get to drink at Miami bars after closing time? The polls open at 7am and close at 3pm by the way. And there isn't "a winner" there are 500 winners. The reason the ban continues after the polls close is specifically and exactly to put a damper on celebrations when results are announced. And after all that, do you think expats will NOT drink beer at bars? If so, why? Dry areas are the two constituencies where there will be voting. I don't know Pattaya well enough to know exactly where they are, you could look it up at the Election Commission website, I know I won't. . -

It's not even that bad. If someone needs a drink this weekend, and is too Dee You Em to know how to get one for 30 hours, he needs even more help. . -
Fedex is hugely expensive and also will "factor in" customs and of course draw the attention of customs to the package when it arrives in the US. Single advantage is that it's fairly reliable. I recommend ordinary mail packages, which are fairly reliable. Sure works for me. .

The real problem with civil suits is that there is no real-world enforcement arm. In the unlikely (to me) event you win after all court options are exhausted, the builder probably won't pay you, or will submit some cockamaney plan such as paying you 500 baht a month. If he is ordered to pay and he doesn't, guess what? You have to sue him again for non-payment. It can get very, very frustrating plus, as you note, expensive. I do advise getting with your lawyer and going over all your options on this. It may be that you conclude it's not productive. .

Yes indeed. Note the ubiquitous transliteration problem: Asarnha Bucha = Asalha Puja .

It's not realistic to expect an answer from ANYONE ANYWHERE on what's going to happen in Bahrain in four months, let alone a Pattaya mongers' board. Right now, Bahrain is quiet and under control. No guarantee, but there's a very good chance that will last through Tuesday. After that... More generally, Bahrain has thrown all the leading springtime fanciers in the hoosegow. That will make it either safer or way, way more dangerous by October. .
