  1. Definitely. But don't make this error, that it is the sole goal (or even ANY goal) of the various authorities involved including Thai Airways to have a decent airline out of Nok. I can think up a couple of reasons to have a decent airline and about a gross of reasons where it doesn't matter at all, some of which are that it would be a goal to have a NOT-decent airline. EDIT/ADDITION Edit/add, there are two stories in the Tuesday Bangkok Post about this sudden development. A news story says the government and some high-ranking people are REALLY pixxed because this new airline will cut heavily into ThaiAirAsia. That's in the news section. A second story in the Business section notes about Nok: [THAI president] Dr Piyasvasti said Nok Air would continue to play the same role it has, but as a hybrid model between a conventional airline and budget operator, Thai Tiger would be tasked with capturing the strictly low-cost carrier (LCC) segment. Nok Air has been unable to move fast enough to re-enter the regional market as early as next year, as THAI mandated earlier, because of its short-term focus on the domestic market and limited aircraft availability, he said. Separately, Nok chief executive Patee Sarasin yesterday confirmed his airline was not yet ready to operate regionally due to constraints and fierce competition that could weaken its attempt to consolidate its profitability. "The regional market is volatile and we don't want to repeat the same mistakes that prompted a major rationalisation in recent years," he told the Bangkok Post. News story. Business story. .
  2. I misunderstood maybe, but aren't you going out of the country to get a new visa? If not, my bad. If so, just roll it over every year, i.e. December this year, you don't ever HAVE to go out of Thailand if you don't wish to. .
  3. Yeah, and most of those full versions are cr... well, okay, let's say easily matched or better by free programs. I've never thought up a reason to buy a full Nero or Roxio. It's not so much that they're bad (they're bloated and slow as hell) but that you don't have to pay to get legal software that's often actually better. .
  4. I don't believe I've seen a CD+R, only DVD. In any case, -R is basic vanilla, hard to go wrong. For cheapos like Princo, I'd look for that. FWIW, this is probably not the real problem behind the OP, but when you're tracking down problems, make it simple. .
  5. Thassafact. It's a jest, though. THAI is still state-owned. The government that sells used toilet paper to Temasek will be overthrown, let alone one of those precious "national assets". The yellow shirts are moving up again REALLY fast, just about ready to make another breakout, I think. You'd have to have a need for political suicide to unload Nok Air to those scurvy arrogant Singaporean thieves, heh. .
  6. Or on the TM6 the next time you enter. jacko - go get a real visa, then get a multiple re-entry. Life is way simpler, really. Plan your own trips on your own time, without worrying about the immigration/visa dates. .
  7. Never had a problem with any particular brand. But make sure you have CD/R or DVD/R and not something more exotic or truly different from that, otherwise you may have to tweak your software, who knows? Princo has been a very dependable burn for me for many years. .
  8. You could sell it to Temasek Holdings. They've done okay with castoff Thai stuff. No, seriously, I think you have to let Nok fly free OR sink it. My bet would be the former, as Nok is taking over some THAI routes already. Back in the day, there were two very separate airlines - Thai Airways and Thai International (two adjectives in search of a noun). The former was the domestic airline. No reason they couldn't do that again. Good job-creation scheme for 61-year-old generals and connected civil servants. .
  9. I haven't done it, but you do NOT have to send your passport, this I know. Hit that link I gave above on "hints" and instructions are there or close by. The longer you stay the better, but it never hurts to follow their rules and get even more brownie points. .
  10. Yes. You need to report 90 days from the day you entered the country, and 90 days after that day, etc. But you can do it by mail, and probably by the web this year or next. All indications it's going to be more heavily enforced, too. The new immigration chief really wants to cull the undesirables, and he's going to use reporting-and-computers to help. .
  11. If you aren't totally into chatting up polite and cute trainees, you can do it by mail. You can get all the forms online -- at least on the days that the immigration website isn't infected with something. The forms including TM 47 are here. Hints on 90 days here. .
  12. An excellent general recommendation is the St Louis Hospital on Sathorn Road. They have a very extensive and - my opinion - excellent dental clinic with lots of dentists, including specialists. I have no idea what crowns would cost, but the clinic's prices are highly competitive in Bangkok. .
  13. I understood that the troupe simply couldn't afford the rent, and its departure was a singular event, not connected with anything else. It was announced some time ago. But I could be misremembering. I now see a Nation blog from last February which doesn't really settle anything: "Our days here are numbered and I think we have less than two years before we have to go," Pisutr says. "We are working on this issue, to see to where we can relocate. That's also partly why we opened the restaurant in Pattaya." So maybe it's still in Bangkok as well. The Pattaya one opened a year ago. .
  14. It's a showplace for a world renowned but impecunious puppet show. It's a terrific show, by all means go see it. I have no idea of the food quality - probably bland but I don't know. .
  15. You don't have to use Safari on the Mac, you can use IE fine. Or vice-versa if you're that kind of person, not that there's anything WRONG with that. .
  16. There (should be) an overall setting of "medium" or along that line. Then get into the options and look for stuff like scripts and pop-up boxes, which in my opinion should be "allowed" but at worst "always ask" but never banned. I'm kind of at a lost. Were it me, I'd go through all the tick-boxes in the security options, look for anything that could be related. .
  17. There's something about you, though. I pretty much always use IE for this forum, and it has worked and works fine. I bet it's in the IE security settings. .
  18. Not speed, I meant final quality of the merchandise only. If you're not in a hurry, torrents are as good as anything. .
  19. Head north about 45 minutes out of Pattaya, then west about another 10 hours. The Grenadier at Wilton Row in Belgrave, or Rules in Covent Garden, I think. .
  20. Right click it. Save As. Make sure you give it a filename of dot-GIF. Test it on your disk, e.g. load it in your browser. If it works, then you can upload that file as your avatar. .
  21. This is the fastest, but equally as good is just to use BitTorrent, and leave the computer running while you're doing other stuff, and the movie will come - in an hour, 6 hours, a day, whatever. .
  22. Really weird. In two years or so, I've never had Chrome crash. In fact, it's designed NOT to crash the whole thing, but just one tab will crash. Diff'rent strokes and all. .
  23. The Simpsons: Season 5, Episode 12, Bart Gets Famous 2010: Report direct from Springfield: Springfield police charge one-armed man with unarmed robbery
  24. Very poor advice. All countries I know charge customs on gifts, but many allow an exemption if they are below a certain price. Seems fair, actually. In all countries I know, you'll pay some sort of taxes on that gift when you buy it. This is transient. TNA and the likes are always clean, but they have links that go to dodgy sites. The links are pretty much random, so if you wait a minute, or hit reload, the warning will usually disappear. And not only TNA by a long shot. Even non-pr0n sites get this. .
  25. In August, then. .
