  1. The name of the hotel is The Holiday Mansion and is located on a soi south of Pattaya Klang that runs between Soi Buakaow and 3rd Rd, they had other rooms that were smaller for 9 and 10 K per month. Cheap charlies will also like the prices in this area for the internet (less than 1/2 a minute), laundries and food. This is also a prime area for where the TGs live so if one can get out of their bed in the afternoon you will run into some before they head to work and take them back to your hotel for a swim. Even cheaper is a new place that opened 2 month ago near Carrefour that was charging 5300 per month + utilities but no pool.
  2. Jack, You need to get out and look at more hotels around Pattaya. This past December I was staying at a hotel around 2 years old that had the shower/tub combination, large room, large frig, balcony and swimming pool for 12,000 ($300) baht a month. Water and electricity totaled about another $25.
  3. I'm 0 for the millenium in my share the ride attempts and in a worst slump than Soi 7's Bronk Bombers but I will keep on trying. I arrive on Singapore flight #64 at 2:30 PM at terminal 2, anyone wishing to split the cost of a ride to Pattaya?
  4. Ken, Since this is going to be a second home can you get by with a nice studio as that would give you more options in your price range. Also what about 2 studios with an adjoining door?
  5. Unless your only interested in the temples and some of the tourist places, I suggest you apply to become a member and then repost on the Members Board under Newbies. This area of the forum is restricted and doesn't allow for adult entertainment discussion.
  6. Jimmy, They knew you were a high roller when they saw you on your last trip wearing all your bling bling and dressed in your tailor made clothes. You need to go into these places wearing shorts, t-shirt and sandals to get the low rates.
  7. Kevin, I think you were correct with your original post, I'll try to remember to check on the times on my next trip in about 3 weeks. I wouldn't want you to show up at the wrong time the next time you go. Jack, Enjoy your trip and if you don't hook up with another boardmember grab a couple of TG's from your nearby watering hole just down the soi from the Lek to keep you company. I had to go back and edit the end of that last phrase as I had inadvertenly mentioned the name of the watering hole. I didn't want the self appointed board police to come down on me.
  8. Maybe he's talking about the newer wing of the Lek which faces Soi 12?
  9. You mentioned that you have to visit the hospital on this visit. Bella Villa Prima is directly across the soi from Pattaya International Hospital and the Sunshine Vista is just a soi away.
  10. Does your 1st requirement mean that your looking for a 2 bedroom place? Also as long as your close to the baht bus routes you really don't need to be next to the action as it will only take you 5 to 10 minutes and 10 baht to get from most hotels to any of the good spots. If you are looking for a 2 bedroom place, the Residence Garden has a few.
  11. I didn't say the airlines would charge lower fares for non stop, I said it was cheaper for them to fly non stop. Granted I didn't use the correct terminolgy when I said circle the airfield, but I have experienced 15 minutes delays waiting for the pilot to get the OK to land at Narita. Also twice I've been on a plane as we were getting ready to land that the pilot had to abort at the last second and we had to wait for another opportunity. From SFO that I know of, you can get to LOS by Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Now not all of these are on a route that would be the shortest distance between SFO and LOS thus requiring more fuel and time. Since your a controller then I'm sure that your aware that even when these plane don't have to wait for a landing that they spend additional fuel getting into the correct landing pattern for the airfield and when they take off they aren't usually going if the direction of the next airfield. Congratulations on your 12 years as a controller. I retired with 34 years as a civilian with the Air Force in logistics as a cost analyst. Logistical support of military aircraft and civilian aircraft doesn't differ that much. Depot maintenance and the changing out of aircraft componets for servicing are based on flown hours. The more flights that you can generate between required maintenance, the more revenue. Also the changing of tires was dependent on the number of landings. BTW, on my next trip to LOS UA put me on SQ for my freebie because they were booked solid. My flight from SFO to Singapore is direct but with a stop in Hong Kong.
  12. As long as they can fill the planes its cheaper to fly non stop than to make a stop in between. The airline doesn't have to pay a fee for the additional airport nor the additional fuel and waste of time for an additional landing and take off. How many times have you had to circle an airfield waiting for a clearance to land?
  13. Isn't this hotel located near soi 5?
  14. Kevin, On your earlier post with the photos you said you took the 2 PM ferry, did you go over there twice?
  15. Kevin, I know there is one at noon as that's the one I always take, are you sure about one at 1300?
  16. 7 AM followed by one at 10 AM
  17. chris, If you can't find something with 2 rooms for a reasonable price and since you said your only going to be there for a month or less, you might want to consider 2 hotel rooms with an adjoining door.
  18. Cathay Pacific just listed their June Deal of the Month, it is $678 R/T from SFO to Manila, don't know what a R/T is from Manila to BKK. They also have an All Asia Pass for $1099 which would route you through Hong Kong to BKK. Nice airline but these flights don't earn AA miles.
  19. Take into account that usually those monthly quotes don't include the cost for water and electricity and more than likely if your renting from an individual you'll have to do your own house cleaning. Paying to clean your towels and linens along with buying your own toliet paper. Also many of the baht bus drivers like to charge 20 baht for the ride back and forth to Jomtien. You need to look at your total costs when doing a cost comparsion of your different options.
  20. These summer months the airlines are very busy. I called UA for an end of June flight (anyday since I'm retired) and the UA flights didn't have any seats but was fortunate that she found me one on Singapore. I would only go on a companion pass if I could get a seat in First or Business. I earn double miles while flying and a companion pass earns you zero, thus when I pay around $700 the effective cost is less than $500 and I'm guaranteed a seat. He had over 30 years service with UA so I would fly on his seniority which would help and like you he has access to the load factors of the flights.
  21. Greg, Since your an airline employee can't you fly for free. My good friend who is now retired from United not only flies for free to LOS but goes in First Class. Granted you do have to fly standby and risk spending an extra night at an airport. He's offered to get me a companion ticket for around $400 which would allow me to fly First Class or Business Class. I think I'll take him up on the offer later in the year when the load factor is low.
  22. A new apartment opened last month not far from Carrefour and they were asking 5300 baht a month. Its a ways from the beach but just a short walk to catch a baht bus that would take you there and it does have A/C.
  23. khrongfa@ego.co.th Ms. Arunee will be the one who replies to your email. I have used them the last 8 times without any problems. It sounds like you've never been to Bangkok. There are 2 international terminals, make sure you know which one you'll be arriving so that their driver is at the correct one. Also I always send them an email just before I leave my home.
  24. I believe the bus that he is referring to is the one that is run by Thai Limo. In the past I use to take the one that departed the airport at 12:00. It would stop at the Thai Limo office on 3rd Rd in Pattaya. A few weeks back another boardmember had posted on this board that Thai Limo was no longer offering this service.
  25. They depart every half hour from Mochit and Ekamai terminals until around midnight. I think on the hour and half hour. Sometimes they're full so you'll have to wait for the next one. Look for the window that says Pattaya.
