  1. That's the only person who I've dealt with. Have only been using them since2004 after Thai Limo jacked up their prices. I'm always given a receipt when I've paid the driver.
  2. Its really not that bad except this past Sunday when it seemed that nearly half of Bangkok was in town and it was bumper to bumper from the dolphin roundabout to Pattaya Klang where we turned. Some big holiday where many factories and companies gave their employees the day off.
  3. I will also come to their defense. I have used them a total of 8 times now and never a problem. On this last trip I was over an hour late due to a medical problem with another passanger just as we were backing away from the gate at Narita. By the time they removed him from the plane and also his luggage we were almost 2 hour behind schedule. I was worried that my driver might have already left the airport but was happy to see him standing in the arrival hall with my name and was in Pattaya in 1 1/2 hours and TGF shortly thereafter. I do provide them with my flight number so that if I'm not there at the stated time that the driver will check on the flight status.
  4. One of the wings is quite a few years old, the other wing was just finished last year.
  5. Haven't stayed there, but did check it out awhile back. The place does have a pool and security boxes which might require you to provide your own lock. The place is about 3 years old and is located near Soi Buakaow.
  6. When I went to the Sanctuary of Truth this past January, they were no longer allowing the swimming with the dolphins. You can still feed them along with shaking their flipper.
  7. Regarding the sunshine, they have both a new wing and old wing.
  8. Not necessarily true. There are baht busses that run south on Soi Buakaow that when they reach Pattaya Tai will turn toward 2nd Rd and then head north. There are also a few special marked baht busses that run south on 2nd rd north of Pattaya Klang and south of North Pattaya Rd. When theses reach Pattaya Klang they then head over to Beach Rd.
  9. I believe so, best to check with United. I know that sometime if the fare is very low they don't qualify. Also they don't always credit you mile for mile, once they put me on All Nippon Air and I only got about 70% of the miles.
  10. I like the pork noodle soup, my teerack but just the right amount of chili powder in it for me. UA must be feeling sorry for you WI folks because when I called the number I had a recorded message telling me that it was $15 and then after booking the flight the lady told me $15. I don't understand it, this will be my third freebie with UA and on the first two I was either flying over or returning on Thai Air, yet when I have a paid flight there are always many vacant seats on United.
  11. You were there during Songkran when many others try to avoid and some of those living there will leave town. December, January and Feburary are the busiest and have the least humidity and cooler temps. If you can get there during Loy Kratong that is a good time to visit. The worst week to be in Pattaya would be better than the best week where I live.
  12. If the Eastiny Place is booked, try the sunshin next door or the Flipper Lodge or Eastiny Inn just down the soi. Nearby on Soi 7 is the Flipper House and if you don't need a pool go to the Bella Vista between Sois 7 & 8.
  13. Hub, When your retired and on a fixed income you have to watch the baht, besides my housing costs are sunk. At first I thought when I see the TGF next week that I would have to inform her that her allowance was going to be cut, but after further analysis I noticed that my BKK departure is around noon so I can take the mini bus to BKK and break even. Are you showing your fiancee around the USA? I think you should take her to DC and show her the Capitol. With luck Congress will be in session and then you can show her some Statist in action.
  14. After reading here about the higher prices in June and then checking with my travel agent today for flights in June who quoted me the same high prices, I decided I had better get off my ass and book my flight now with UA using my FF miles. I went to the website and tried about 10 days at the end of June and all I got was "Not Available". I was then forced to phone then which cost $15 because your talking to a person. I told the lady that I was flexible and she found me a flight leaving on the 27th but not with United. She but me on that dumpy airline, Singapore. So for an additional $15 I have to put up with Singapore Airlines FA's and food.

    Nightmarch

Dave, You seem to be a little testy ever since your favorite FLB hostess Mod has left the scene.
  16. You over paid. I stayed there on my trips in 2002 and paid only 650. I did stay for 30 days at a time so maybe that why they cut me a lower rate. I think the place opened in 2000/2001. In 2003 I discovered Mike's Beach and was charged 600 which had a much bigger room. My current place is only 250 a day (plus utilities) and its the best room that I've stayed in Pattaya to date, although a bit further from the beach. Baybreeze is a budget hotel, but if you look around and are willing to walk a little or spend an extra few minutes on a baht bus you can do better.
  17. I stayed there last month for a few nights. Cost was 900 a day which included a breakfast buffet for 2. Buffet was primarily western so TGF was loooking for some Issan food shortly after we finished breakfast. Hotel is located near the night market. Nothing great about the place but also nothing bad. I went with a buddy to Chaing Mai who made the arrangements so I didn't do any research to see if there was anything better. If you need a driver I have the contact info for one who charged 100 baht an hour to drive you around town in a tuk tuk or 1000 baht a day for a car to take you around the surrounding area who speaks English.
  18. The screwup might come from us giving the wrong terminal, time or date. On my last trip I provided the following day for my arrival as I land at 11:30 PM. Fortunately after I sent the email something told me to recheck the date and I sent a follow on email with the correct date.
  19. Steve, Have you checked UA prices with a travel agent. Many times I've gotten a better deal with my travel agent than the UA prices on their website. Also when you factor in the FF program when your Premier Executive its like pay for two and get the 3rd free. Also I like their economy plus seats and since I've made Premier Executive I've been able to get the exit row on my flights. One last thing, they have some nice promotions during the year. My last trip and the upcoming one they had the double miles promotion going which works out to triple for me. Those 2 trips will be worth a little over 102K miles plus 6k miles next year when I don't use the upgrades, sweet.
  20. Summer vacation from school. This is the time that I cash in my air miles.
  21. Happy, More detail needed. What time are you arriving and when you say we is we your spouse and children or another guy assuming your a guy.
  22. Check out "Hotel Reviews", Pattaya hotel less than 1000 and your question should be answered.
  23. That place is just up the soi from the Tuesday/Friday market. There are also about another dozen new place that have just recently opened on the corner of Soi Diana and Soi Buakaow where Lolita's is located.
  24. Regarding construction noise. You shouldn't have any at the Sabai, Flipper Lodge isn't that far away from where they cleared out the beer bars on Soi 9 so something could be in the works for that area. Soi 13 has 2 project going, Golden Crab expansion which will go into next year and the AA Residence which has just begun.
